SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI D×２ on PC places you in the role of a Devil Downloader, or Dx2, a commander who uses a special smartphone app to summon demons. After gaining access to the app through a mysterious man, you join the Liberators, a secret organization working to protect the world from the Acolytes. This opposing faction uses its own demon-summoning abilities to spread chaos and secretly eliminate people with high empathy quotients, giving the story a dark modern setting built around hidden agendas, dangerous supernatural forces, and a fight for survival. The campaign takes you through modern Tokyo locations such as Akihabara, Shinjuku, and Kudanshita while you investigate the Aura Gate, pursue valuable materials, and uncover more of the conflict surrounding the Liberators and their enemies. With Japanese voice acting from the original cast, the presentation aims to support the series’ mysterious atmosphere while its narrative gives your demon-collecting activities a clear purpose.

The core loop combines demon recruitment, fusion, customization, and turn-based strategy. You can summon and fuse new demons, then collect, enhance, evolve, and awaken them to build a party suited to the opponents ahead. More than 160 unique demons are available, and each has its own skills, strengths, and possible tactical role. Skill transfer lets you adapt demons beyond their initial abilities, so party construction is not only about finding powerful units; it is also about deciding how their capabilities work together and which tactics can overcome tough battles. Combat uses the Press Turn battle system, making the information shown during each encounter important as you choose actions and manage your team. The game also introduces Armament through Sword and Shield Fusions, allowing you to strengthen your avatar alongside your demon roster, while the Alterworld provides additional content built around that expanded progression. On PC, a larger display can make it easier to read battle information, compare demon skills, inspect available upgrades, and keep track of the different choices involved in forming a formidable party. Keyboard-and-mouse input can also make repeated menu actions more comfortable when enhancing, evolving, awakening, transferring skills, or moving through the game’s Tokyo areas and the Aura Gate. Outside the main story, seasonal events offer rewards that can strengthen your team, Battle Assist lets you help fellow Liberators or receive help from them, and Auto-battle and Speed Up modes reduce the friction of routine encounters. For a more competitive test of your formations and tactics, Dx2 Duel lets you challenge other players, while Demon Scanner and the Augmented Reality mode provide a separate way to view and interact with your collected demons, including rotating them in 360 degrees and posing them for pictures.
