To collect regular candles efficiently in Sky: Children of the Light, collect your first 15 to 19 candles while daily chevron bonuses are active, then stop once your candle icon turns gray. Pushing past the gray candle threshold requires sweeping multiple realms for a single candle, creating steep diminishing returns on your playtime.
How Daily Light Chevrons Work
At each daily reset, three small upward-pointing arrows called chevrons appear next to your candle icon in the top-left corner of the screen. These chevrons indicate an active forging multiplier that reduces the amount of light (wax) required to forge a regular candle.
As you collect wax and forge candles throughout the day, the chevrons disappear one at a time. Each lost chevron raises the wax requirement for subsequent candles. Once all three chevrons vanish, you forge candles at baseline speed until reaching the gray candle threshold, where forging slows to a crawl.
| Daily Light Phase | Active Chevrons | Candles Forged | Wax Needed Per Candle | Efficiency Level |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 3 | 3 Chevrons | 1–5 | ~80–90 Wax | Maximum bonus |
| Tier 2 | 2 Chevrons | 6–10 | ~110–120 Wax | High bonus |
| Tier 1 | 1 Chevron | 11–15 | ~150–180 Wax | Moderate bonus |
| Tier 0 | 0 Chevrons | 16–20 | ~250–400 Wax | Standard speed |
| Gray Candle | None (Gray Icon) | 20–21+ | 1,000+ Wax | Negligible return |
When to Stop Farming Wax
Under normal conditions, a player can collect roughly 20 to 21 regular candles per day. However, aiming for the maximum limit every day is rarely worth the time investment:
- Candles 1 to 15: Takes roughly 20 to 35 minutes when targeting high-density wax areas.
- Candles 16 to 19: Takes an additional 20 to 30 minutes at standard rates.
- Candle 20 and beyond (Gray Candle): Demands 45 minutes or more for a single candle because the requirement exceeds 1,000 wax pieces.
Stopping between 15 and 19 candles secures 90% to 95% of your available daily yield in about an hour or less. Only pursue gray candles during emergencies, such as needing one or two last-minute candles before a traveling spirit departs.
High-Yield Wax Priorities
To burn through your high-efficiency chevron tiers quickly, visit concentrated wax sources immediately after the daily reset instead of running low-density zones like Isle of Dawn:
- Daily Quest Realm Candle Cakes: Check which realm hosts the daily quest shrine or rotating candle cakes. Collecting large clusters of red candles in this realm clears Tiers 3 and 2 in minutes.
- Timed Social Light Events: Attend high-yield scheduled events, such as the Sanctuary Islands Geyser and Grandma’s dinner in the Hidden Forest. Both provide concentrated passive light within 10 to 15 minutes.
- Idle Social Light Areas: Visit spots like the hot spring in the Valley of Triumph or the campfire in the Golden Wasteland to collect ongoing wax with minimal effort.
Routine Time Budgets
Adjust your daily route based on your available play session:
- 15 to 20 Minutes: Run the realm containing the daily quest and rotating candle cakes, or attend a single Geyser event. This secures 8 to 10 candles across Tiers 3 and 2.
- 35 to 45 Minutes: Combine the daily quest realm with Grandma's dinner and Sanctuary Islands to forge 15 to 17 candles.
- Over 45 Minutes: Finish remaining realm candle clusters until your chevron meter reaches Tier 0 or turns gray, then log off until the next reset.

I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
