To unlock Commander Luke Skywalker in Star Wars™: Galaxy of Heroes, you must complete every tier of his multi-stage Hero’s Journey event. Entry into the event is strictly gated: you must field a specific squad of five designated characters, each upgraded to 7-star rarity.
Mandatory Character Requirements
The Hero’s Journey does not allow guest units or alternative squad members. You must acquire and upgrade the following five characters to 7 stars before starting the event encounters:
| Required Character | Star Level Required | Primary Acquisition Source |
|---|---|---|
| Farmboy Luke Skywalker | 7 Stars | Early Light/Dark Side Nodes |
| Stormtrooper Han | 7 Stars | Squad Arena Store |
| Princess Leia | 7 Stars | Squad Arena Store |
| Old Ben Kenobi | 7 Stars | Cantina Battles Nodes |
| R2-D2 | 7 Stars | Prerequisite Legendary Event |
Because R2-D2 is himself locked behind a separate Legendary event, securing R2-D2 at 7 stars serves as the primary progression bottleneck before Commander Luke Skywalker's event can be attempted.
Daily Farming Strategy
To prepare your roster efficiently without wasting currency or energy, divide your daily farming routine across the respective stores and nodes:
- Cantina Energy: Spend daily Cantina energy exclusively on Old Ben Kenobi's node until he reaches 7 stars.
- Squad Arena Store: Split or alternate your arena store tokens between Stormtrooper Han and Princess Leia to advance both units simultaneously.
- Campaign Nodes: Clear early light and dark side campaign stages daily to accumulate shards for Farmboy Luke Skywalker.
- Legendary Event Rotation: Direct your Imperial or targeted faction squad toward clearing R2-D2's event to fulfill the final unit slot.
Modding and Stage Combat Tactics
Having 7-star units meets the entry requirement, but under-geared or un-modded characters will fail in later narrative stages. Because stages restrict your team lineup, focus on specific combat roles and stat builds to handle incoming damage.
- Stormtrooper Han: Equip Speed and Health mods. His primary role is manipulating the turn meter to keep control of battle flow and protect squishier allies.
- Old Ben Kenobi: Prioritize defensive stats and Speed. Use his ability kit to apply debuffs and absorb damage while your attackers deal direct health damage.
- Mod Optimization: Ensure all five units have mods tuned for Speed and Health. High-speed stats allow your team to move before enemy waves inflict overwhelming damage.
- Ability Upgrades: Level up passive buffs and crowd-control abilities fully. Maxing out passive traits significantly increases team survivability in prolonged encounters.
Once all five units reach 7 stars with sufficient gear and mods, launch the Hero's Journey event stages in sequence to permanently unlock Commander Luke Skywalker for your roster.

I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
This helped me understand heroes much better.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
