To unlock Grand Master Yoda in Star Wars™: Galaxy of Heroes, you must defeat Tier V of the Grand Master's Training legendary event using a team of five 5-star Jedi characters. Completing Tier V awards the final character shards needed for an initial 5-star unlock, while completing Tier VII with five 7-star Jedi awards the remaining 100 shards required to promote him to 7 stars.
Grand Master's Training Tier Requirements
The Grand Master's Training event consists of seven progressive tiers. Every tier requires a full squad of five Jedi who meet or exceed that stage's star threshold.
- Tiers I–IV: Require 1-star, 2-star, 3-star, and 4-star Jedi respectively. These stages award credits and the preliminary shards toward the character.
- Tier V (Unlock Stage): Requires five 5-star Jedi. Clearing this battle provides the remaining shards required to unlock Grand Master Yoda at 5 stars.
- Tier VI: Requires five 6-star Jedi to earn shards toward a 6-star promotion.
- Tier VII (Final Stage): Requires five 7-star Jedi. Completing this stage provides the remaining 100 shards needed to promote Yoda to 7 stars.
Recommended Jedi Squad and Farming Sources
Farming Jedi from accessible shops and early energy nodes minimizes the gear and credit investment needed to clear the event.
| Character | Role | Primary Farm Location | Key Utility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qui-Gon Jinn | Leader / Dispel | Cantina Battles Store | Provides squad speed, strips Yoda's buffs, and grants Offense Up |
| Luminara Unduli | Healer / Attacker | Galactic War Store | Offers burst healing, heal over time, and an Ability Block special |
| Jedi Consular | Healer / Support | Cantina Battles & Light/Dark Hard Nodes | Brings low-cooldown heals and consistent basic damage |
| Mace Windu | Tank / Dispel | Squad Arena Store & Cantina Battles | Inflicts Expose and removes Yoda's positive status effects |
| Ezra Bridger or Ahsoka Tano | Damage Dealer | Cantina Battles / Cantina Battles Store | Delivers burst damage, bonus attacks, and additional buff dispels |
Qui-Gon Jinn is the ideal leader for this lineup because his leadership ability increases your squad's Speed, allowing your team to act before Yoda cycles through his turns. If squad survival is an issue in prolonged battles, Luminara Unduli can be used as leader to provide bonus evasion and passive healing over time.
Key Encounter Mechanics
Grand Master Yoda relies on high base Speed, turn meter gain, and two signature abilities: Masterstroke and Battle Meditation.
- Buff Stealing (Masterstroke): Yoda's area-of-effect attack damages all allies and copies every active positive buff on your squad to himself. Avoid triggering squad-wide buffs (such as Retribution, Defense Up, or Critical Chance Up) directly before Yoda takes a turn. Activate your support buffs immediately after Yoda attacks to maximize their use before his next turn.
- Foresight and Evasion: Yoda frequently grants himself Foresight, causing incoming attacks to miss. Strip Foresight by using basic attacks or low-impact abilities from your supports before firing heavy special attacks from damage dealers like Ezra Bridger or Qui-Gon Jinn.
- Dispelling Positive Effects: When Yoda gains Tenacity Up, Foresight, or Health Steal from Battle Meditation or Masterstroke, use the dispel abilities on Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, or Ezra Bridger to remove them before dealing damage.
Combat Strategy for Tiers V and VII
Follow this sequence to maintain control during the final stages of the event:
- Evaluate the Escorts: If Yoda enters the encounter with Jedi Temple Guards or allied Jedi, check their abilities. Eliminate escort units first if they possess taunts, active heals, or counter-attacks. If the escorts only deal minor damage, target Yoda directly to reduce his opportunities to gain turn meter.
- Recover from the Opening Attack: Yoda typically acts first due to superior base Speed. Absorb his initial hit, then use a heal from Luminara Unduli or Jedi Consular to stabilize any character brought into low health.
- Burn Foresight Before Bursting: Check Yoda's active status icons before activating damage specials. If Foresight is active, tap him with a basic attack, confirm the evade, and follow up with your high-damage attacks.
- Stagger Healing Cooldowns: Alternate heals between Luminara Unduli and Jedi Consular rather than using both in the same round. Keeping one heal off cooldown provides an immediate buffer against Yoda's area-of-effect critical hits.
Recommended Levels and Gear Thresholds
You do not need high gear tiers to defeat the final tier of Grand Master's Training.
- For Tier V (5-Star Unlock): Bring your five Jedi to character Level 60–65 and Gear Level VII.
- For Tier VII (7-Star Promotion): Level your five Jedi to Level 75–80 and equip Gear Level VIII or IX. Equip Speed primary arrows and Protection primary circles to ensure your healers outpace Yoda's damage and survive his critical hits.
