To counter Oliver in Summoners War World Arena, draft Masha (Fire Beast Rider) as a late reactive pick into Oliver-led control compositions. Masha stops Oliver from chaining turns by resisting Attack Bar pushbacks, punishing enemy turn cycling through her passive speed scaling, and forcing Oliver to land glancing hits against her Fire attribute.
Why Masha Counters Oliver's Control Loop
Oliver relies on resetting enemy cooldowns and reducing Attack Bar to cycle his turns continuously. Drafting Masha directly breaks this control loop through three mechanics:
- Elemental Glancing: Oliver is Wind, and Masha is Fire. Oliver has a base 50% chance to land a glancing hit against Masha. Glancing hits prevent him from reliably applying cooldown resets and Attack Bar absorption.
- Attack Bar Reduction Immunity: Masha cannot have her Attack Bar reduced by enemy abilities. When Oliver targets her with his absorption skills, the pushback fails completely.
- Passive Acceleration: Masha gains Attack Bar whenever opponents use Attack Bar boosting skills, while her passive continuously scales her Combat Speed. Oliver's active cycling accelerates Masha rather than shutting her down.
This combination forces the opponent into a severe tactical disadvantage: targeting Masha risks wasted turns on glancing hits, while ignoring her allows a high-damage bruiser to freely pick apart their team.
Recommended Rune Builds and Stat Benchmarks
Masha requires enough bulk to survive early focus while maintaining the velocity needed to interrupt enemy turn order.
| Rune Slot / Category | Bruiser Setup |
|---|---|
| Primary Set | Violent (recommended for cycling) or Swift |
| Offset Set | Will (mandatory) or Revenge |
| Main Stats (2/4/6) | Speed / Critical Damage / HP% or ATK% |
| Substat Priorities | SPD, Critical Rate (80%+), HP%, DEF%, ATK% |
| Target Benchmarks | +140 to +170 SPD, 25,000+ Total HP, high DEF |
| Artifact Attributes | Additional Damage by SPD/HP, S2/S3 Crit Damage |
Violent vs. Swift Rune Choices
- Violent / Will: The standard setup for bruiser play. When Oliver fails to push back or reset Masha, a Violent proc allows her to immediately eliminate a fragile support or dismount high-value targets. Will runes prevent first-turn crowd control from enemy strippers and defense breakers.
- Swift / Will: The alternative for contesting fast speed-lead drafts. A high-speed Swift build lets Masha cut in immediately after an enemy booster, threatening an early elimination before Oliver can move.
When and How to Draft Masha
Draft Masha reactively in Pick 4 or Pick 5 rather than as an early blind pick. Locking her too early allows opponents to pivot into heavy Water crowd control and sustained damage.
- Identify the Core: Watch for an opponent committing to Oliver alongside a speed lead (such as Vanessa or Seara) and neutral or Wind control units like Cheongpung or Robo.
- Check for Water Threats: Verify that the enemy team has not already drafted dominant Water answers such as Miles, Moore, or Chandra.
- Select Support Anchors: Pair Masha with cleansers, immunity providers, or turn-manipulation supports. Racuni synergizes especially well by providing turn manipulation and healing, while Woosa or Riley provide continuous defensive buffs.
- Force the Ban: A late Masha pick into an Oliver-reliant composition often forces the opponent to ban her, ensuring your other core threats make it into the match.
Match Target Priority
Do not focus Oliver immediately on turn one unless he is fully exposed without defense buffs or protection.
- Turn 1: Allow Oliver to waste skills against your Will runes or glance against Masha. Direct Masha’s initial burst into the enemy team's primary damage dealer, defense breaker, or secondary stripper.
- Mid-Fight: Once the opponent's offensive follow-up is eliminated, redirect Masha’s damage to Oliver. Masha’s passive speed ramping allows her to lap him in turn count.
- Closing Out: Apply defense breaks and burst attacks once enemy defensive shields and immunity lapse. Even if Masha is dismounted from her beast, her human form maintains high single-target cycling to eliminate the remaining Wind units.

Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
