To secure a quad Speed roll on a Swift rune in Summoners War, upgrade only six-star Legendary Swift runes that start with an innate base Speed substat, and immediately stop powering them up the moment an upgrade fails to land on Speed.

Rune Selection Criteria

Only six-star Legend runes can achieve a quad roll because they receive four substat enhancements—one at each tier from +3 to +12. Hero (purple) runes stop upgrading base substats after +9, capping their raw potential at a triple roll of 24 Speed.

Before spending mana, evaluate your Swift rune drops against these standards:

  • Base Speed Value: Six-star Legend runes roll a starting Speed substat between 4 and 6. Prioritize runes starting at 6 Speed, which provides the only path to a maximum ungrinded total of 30.
  • Innate Prefix Substat: An innate prefix occupies the non-upgradable slot directly beneath the main stat. A rune with a non-rollable stat here—such as flat Defense, Resistance, or Accuracy—removes that stat from the roll pool, narrowing future rolls toward percentages and your target Speed stat.
  • Eligible Rune Slots: Slots 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 can roll Speed substats. Slot 2 runes have Speed available as a fixed main stat (reaching 42 Speed at +15) and cannot roll Speed as a substat.

Power-Up Cutoff Milestones

Upgrading every candidate directly to +12 quickly drains mana. Check the result at each three-level interval to determine whether to continue or stop.

Upgrade TierSpeed TargetRequired Action
+3+5 to +6 (Total: 11–12)Continue upgrading immediately.
+3+4 (Total: 10)Continue only if your account lacks 20+ Speed runes.
+3Misses SpeedSell or stop immediately; a quad roll is mathematically impossible.
+6Hits Speed twice (Total: 16–18)Continue upgrading to +9.
+6Misses Speed or low rollsStop upgrading; keep only if usable as a secondary bruiser piece.
+9Hits Speed three times (Total: 21–24)Triple roll secured; proceed to +12 for the quad attempt.
+12Hits fourth Speed roll (Total: 26–30)Success; lock the rune and apply a Grindstone.

If the +3 roll lands on any other substat, sell the rune immediately. If the rune rolls +4, its maximum ceiling drops below what a high-end triple roll can achieve. Runes that hit Speed consistently through +9 become valuable triple rolls (21–24 ungrinded Speed) even if the +12 upgrade lands elsewhere.

Slot Roles and Main Stat Exceptions

Odd slots (1, 3, and 5) have fixed main stats (flat Attack, flat Defense, and flat HP). Note that Slot 3 cannot generate Attack substats, making it slightly easier to concentrate defensive rolls alongside Speed.

Even slots (4 and 6) feature variable main stats:

  • Percentage main stats (HP% or Defense%) provide long-term utility for general turn-contest units.
  • Flat main stats on slots 4 and 6 can still be kept if they secure high Speed rolls. Pure Turn-1 attack-bar boosters such as Kabilla, Eshir, and Triton prioritize turn order over base survivability, making a 28+ raw Speed piece valuable regardless of a flat main stat. Roll flat-stat slots 4 and 6 with base 6 Speed through the +6 checkpoint before deciding to sell them.

Post-Roll Optimization

Once a rune lands four Speed rolls, use Grindstones and Enchanted Gems to finalize the piece:

  1. Apply a Swift Speed Grindstone: A Legend Grindstone adds between +4 and +5 Speed. This increases a 26–30 raw quad roll to an end value between 30 and 35 total Speed.
  2. Replace Weak Substats: Use an Enchanted Gem to replace low flat substats or unwanted Resistance with percentage attributes (HP% or Defense%).
  3. Tune for Unit Archetypes: Maintain or gem in Accuracy for first-turn control units such as Chiwu, Moore, and Sekhmet to ensure their follow-up debuffs land reliably.

Sourcing Candidates: Farming and Reappraisal

Acquire Swift candidates through two primary methods:

  • Giants Abyss Hard: Run this dungeon repeatedly to generate natural six-star Legend Swift drops. Roll candidates immediately and sell any that fail the +3 or +6 test.
  • Reappraisal Stones: Save Reappraisals exclusively for six-star Legend Swift runes on slots 4, 5, and 6. Prioritize pieces that possess an innate prefix to narrow the roll pool and increase the odds of generating high Speed substats. Runes without innate prefixes should be rolled as natural dungeon drops rather than targeted with Reappraisal Stones.
