To maximize combat effectiveness in Supremacy: Call of War 1942, design your primary strike groups around the game’s 10-unit damage cap and support them with balanced armor types and anti-air protection. Stacking more than 10 units does not increase total offensive output, but deliberate overstacking can serve as a defensive buffer to protect expensive core units.
The 10-Unit Damage Cap and Meat Shielding
Combat rounds evaluate each stack using a strict 10-unit cap: only the 10 units with the highest attack values against the target armor class deal full damage during a combat tick. Additional units of that type do not add offensive power.
However, incoming damage distributes across every unit in an army relative to its current health. You can exploit this mechanic by adding inexpensive units to an offensive force:
- Damage absorption: Mixing cheap units like basic Infantry or low-tier Armored Cars into an armored stack creates "meat shields." These units absorb incoming hits, keeping high-value Medium Tanks and Anti-Tank guns at full fighting strength.
- Movement penalties: An army moves at the pace of its slowest unit. Attaching foot-powered units or standard towed artillery to an armored column eliminates its speed advantage.
- Bombardment risks: Dense doomstacks create prime targets for Flying Bombs, Rockets, and Nuclear weapons.
- Frontline coverage: Concentrating too many units into a single territory leaves adjacent borders open to rapid capture by enemy reconnaissance units.
Core Land Stacks and Combined Arms
Pure stacks of a single unit type leave your forces vulnerable to direct counters. Build combined-arms stacks tailored to specific battlefield objectives:
| Stack Type | Recommended Composition | Tactical Objective | Doctrine Advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breakthrough Spearhead | 4 Medium Tanks, 3 Mechanized Infantry, 3 SP Anti-Air | Punch through fortified lines and trade hits | Axis |
| Bombardment Battery | 5 Artillery or SP Artillery, 3 Anti-Air, 2 Armored Cars | Shell targets at range while screened from melee | Allied |
| Rapid Flanking Wing | 4 Light Tanks or Armored Cars, 4 Motorized Infantry, 2 SP Anti-Air | Exploit gaps, seize undefended land, hunt artillery | Pan-Asian |
| Defensive Fortress Anvil | 4 Infantry, 4 Anti-Tank, 2 Anti-Air (placed in Bunkers or Forts) | Hold chokepoints and destroy attacking armor | Comintern |
When setting up artillery groups, always include at least two Armored Cars or Infantry units. If an unescorted artillery battery is engaged in close combat, it suffers heavy melee penalties. A screening force prevents attacking units from immediately dismantling the artillery.
Integrating Anti-Air Defense
Unprotected ground stacks are vulnerable to Tactical Bombers (which target unarmored and light armor units) and Attack Bombers (which target heavy armor). Adding dedicated air defense protects stacks in two ways:
- Direct Defense: Anti-air units inflict return damage immediately when hostile aircraft strike the stack.
- Patrol Damage: Anti-air units automatically engage enemy planes that patrol within their operational radius each time the patrol timer ticks.
Match the speed of your anti-air to the rest of the group. Use standard towed Anti-Air alongside regular Infantry, static fortifications, and towed artillery. Assign Self-Propelled Anti-Air (SP Anti-Air) to mechanized spearheads so your armored divisions maintain their movement speed.
Air Wing and Naval Fleet Compositions
Air and naval forces follow the same 10-unit combat efficiency limit as ground armies.
Air Wing Setup
Keep strike wings capped at 10 aircraft to maintain full damage efficiency. Pair 5 to 7 bombers (Tactical Bombers for soft targets or Attack Bombers for tanks) with 3 to 5 Interceptors. The Interceptors absorb incoming fire from enemy fighters and ground-based anti-air, shielding your strike aircraft from attrition. Send fighter sweeps slightly ahead of your bombers over contested airspace to clear enemy air patrols before bombing ground targets.
Naval Fleet Balance
Unaccompanied capital ships quickly succumb to submarine ambushes and naval bombers. Build balanced naval groups around the 10-ship cap:
- Core Bombardment: 3 to 4 Battleships or Heavy Cruisers for surface engagements and coastal shelling.
- Submarine Detection: 3 to 4 Destroyers to reveal stealth submarines and engage them with anti-submarine weapons.
- Air Defense: 2 to 3 Cruisers to shield the formation from carrier-based aircraft and naval bombers.

This helped me understand strategy much better.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Supremacy: Call of War 1942 articles next.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
This guide answered the exact question I had.
