To defeat the Swamp King in Takashi Ninja Warrior, maintain mid-range spacing to bait his slow frontal swings, roll through or around his attacks to reach his back, and strike two to three times before disengaging. Do not attempt to block his heaviest blows or trade hits directly against his frontal guard.
Preparation and Arena Entry
Before initiating the fight, eliminate any wandering enemies near the arena entrance. Taking stray hits before the encounter wastes healing resources needed for the boss.
- Rest at the Checkpoint Shrine: Use the nearest Shrine to refill your vitality, replenish your healing gourds, and secure unspent soul points.
- Select an Agile Weapon: Equip a standard katana or a faster blade rather than a heavy two-handed weapon. Heavy blades leave you vulnerable during their prolonged swing animations. A standard blade allows you to land quick hits and still retain enough stamina to dodge away.
- Restock Projectiles: Replenish your shurikens before crossing into the arena so you have ranged damage available during retreats.
Swamp King Attack Patterns and Counters
The Swamp King relies on long-reaching, telegraphed strikes. Because his weapons cover wide arcs across the wetland floor, standard backpedaling often leaves you within his reach. Roll through or past his strikes to use evasion invulnerability frames.
| Attack Type | Visual Indicator | Threat Level | Response |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overhead Cleave | Raises weapon high with both hands and pauses | High | Roll laterally or diagonally through the strike to get behind him. |
| Horizontal Sweeping Slash | Steps back slightly and winds weapon across torso | Medium | Backstep out of max range or roll through the swing arc. |
| Ground Slam / Shockwave | Channels and slams directly into the mud | High | Create distance immediately; do not linger at point-blank range. |
| Forward Lunge / Thrust | Lowers shoulder and drives forward in a line | Very High | Side-roll at the moment forward momentum begins, then counter. |
Boss Strategy and Positioning
The Swamp King possesses hyper-armor and high frontal defenses, allowing him to absorb frontal hits without staggering. Direct your movement around his flanks and rear to deal consistent damage.
Baiting and Dodging
Stand roughly two weapon lengths away to trigger his melee attacks. The Swamp King holds his windup animations longer than standard enemies. Wait until his weapon begins its downward or forward swing before pressing dodge. Rolling during the windup pause allows his tracking to pivot toward you. Roll diagonally forward toward his off-hand side to end up behind his hip.
Punishing During Recovery
Once positioned behind the boss, execute a brief, controlled combo:
- Land your first strike immediately as his attack hitbox clears.
- Land a second strike during his recovery animation.
- Stop attacking and disengage before he turns.
Overcommitting to a third or fourth strike will leave you exposed to his fast pivot swings without the stamina required to evade.
Stamina and Spacing Rules
Never exhaust your stamina bar completely. Maintain at least thirty percent of your stamina pool so you can dodge incoming follow-up strikes. When the boss resets his stance, back away to mid-range and circle him until your stamina refills. Throw shurikens during these neutral moments to apply chip damage and maintain his focus forward without risking melee range.
Common Tactical Errors
- Dodging Too Early: Rolling the moment the boss raises his weapon causes your dodge animation to end just as the blow lands. Track his shoulders and arms, initiating the roll only when the strike actively begins moving toward you.
- Fighting on the Perimeter: Avoid backing into murky tree roots, rocks, or boundary barriers where the camera can become obstructed. Route your evasive rolls toward the center of the arena floor.
- Healing in Neutral Range: Using a healing gourd directly in front of the boss triggers his lunging thrust. Only heal after dodging a heavy ground slam or after sprinting to safe distance across the arena.
- Attempting to Parry Heavy Slams: Parrying or blocking vertical overhead slams breaks your guard immediately. Rely entirely on directional rolls for defense.
