To win combat encounters in Tearscape, position your character diagonally from enemies, bait their cardinal attacks, and counter during their recovery frames. Because dodging in Tearscape lacks invincibility frames, survival depends on physical spacing, manual movement, and strict stamina management rather than rolling through incoming hits.
Diagonal Positioning and Camera Management
The top-down perspective provides a full view of the arena, making spacing your primary defense. Enemies primarily track and strike along four cardinal directions. By standing diagonally relative to an opponent, you force the enemy to pivot before attacking, creating a window to dodge and strike.
Keep these spatial tactics in mind during encounters:
- Maintain screen-edge distance: Keep opponents near the edge of your view to observe wind-up animations safely without getting backed into walls or hazards.
- Force enemy pivots: Aligning diagonally prevents direct cardinal tracking, buying time to react while the enemy turns.
- Funnel enemy groups: When facing multiple opponents, retreat into narrow pathways to line them up in a single file, preventing multi-angle attacks.
Timing Dodges Without Invincibility Frames
Dodging in Tearscape requires complete physical avoidance because character movements do not grant invincibility frames (i-frames). Moving into or through an active weapon attack will still result in taking damage.
To evade strikes safely, execute your movement as the enemy begins its attack animation:
- Wait for the telegraph: Stand near the edge of the attack range to prompt the enemy's attack animation.
- Move laterally at the trigger: Step or roll sideways right before the strike lands so the enemy cannot readjust its tracking mid-animation.
- Punish recovery frames: Step in for a short burst of damage while the enemy remains stationary after missing, then disengage before your opponent recovers.
Managing Stamina and Resetting Encounters
Every attack leaves your character vulnerable to counter-attacks. Managing your stamina pool ensures you never get trapped in a fatigued state during active strikes.
- Keep stamina above 50 percent: Do not commit to an attack sequence unless your stamina bar can support both your attack cycle and an emergency dodge roll.
- Avoid overextending combos: Stick to brief hit-and-run strikes rather than long combinations unless you are certain the target will be eliminated.
- Retreat to reset combat: If your health drops significantly, disengage by stepping back to a previously cleared screen or area. Pulling enemies away from their spawn points allows you to thin enemy groups safely.

Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Tearscape articles next.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
