To execute a critical finisher in Tearscape, attack an enemy continuously to break their hidden poise threshold, then position your character directly in front of or behind the target to trigger the execution prompt. Always retain at least 20 percent of your stamina bar so you have enough stamina to initiate the finisher or roll away from counter-attacks.

Triggering the Stagger State

Enemies in Tearscape do not display a visible poise meter. Instead, observe visual and audio cues to identify when a target becomes vulnerable:

  • Visual Signal: The enemy pauses movement completely and enters a brief dazed animation.
  • Audio Signal: A distinct sound cue plays the moment the poise threshold breaks.
  • Execution Window: Once dazed, move directly to the front or back of the target to activate the critical finisher prompt. Avoid using basic strikes during this window, as standard attacks deal far less damage than the finisher.

Stamina and Positioning Rules

Sustained attacks drain your stamina quickly. Overextending during an assault leaves you unable to initiate a finisher or dodge defensive counters.

  1. Reserve Stamina: Stop attacking once your stamina drops to 20 percent. If the enemy is not yet dazed, disengage briefly to recover stamina. Poise progress does not immediately reset as long as you stay within close range.
  2. Kite into Chokepoints: Pull fast-moving targets into narrow corridors. Restricting their evasion routes ensures your swings land consistently without wasting stamina on missed strikes.

Stagger Strategy by Target Type

Target TypeStagger BehaviorRecommended Combat Action
Mobile / Ranged MobsLow poise threshold, high threat in groupsTarget first. Triggering a finisher grants invulnerability during the animation.
Armored / Heavy MobsRapid poise recovery rateUse hit-and-run tactics. Land 1–2 strikes, reposition quickly, and repeat.
BossesStrict poise rules; interrupts attack stringsTrack hit recoil counts (e.g., 3 heavy attacks). Attack until recoil, then prepare to dodge.

Capitalizing on Boss Stagger Windows

Bosses feature specialized poise mechanics that require disciplined timing rather than aggressive button-mashing:

  • Track Recoil Windows: Count how many strikes force a boss to flinch. If a boss recoils after three heavy attacks, deliver three hits and immediately retreat to avoid counter-attacks.
  • Avoid Phase-Change Traps: Do not attempt to force a poise break while a boss activates an area-of-effect (AoE) attack or transitions into a new phase. Disengage during these animations, then close the distance once the attack finishes to deliver burst damage safely.
