The Shield of Peace in Total Battle: War Strategy prevents rival players from scouting, attacking, or launching clan rallies against your city coordinates while it remains active. It secures your garrisoned troops, fortifications, and stored resources, making it your primary defense when you log off or stockpile supplies. However, protection extends only to assets inside your walls, and performing any hostile player-versus-player (PvP) action immediately drops the barrier.
What the Shield Protects and What It Leaves Exposed
Activating a Shield of Peace places a defensive barrier over your city. Understanding its boundaries prevents unexpected troop losses:
- Protected inside your city: Your walls, defensive fortifications, garrisoned defensive troops, and stored resources cannot be targeted by enemy scouts, individual attacks, or offensive rallies.
- Exposed outside your walls: Troops gathering on resource tiles, marching across the kingdom map, or occupying world map structures receive no protection from your city shield. Hostile players can attack and defeat these external units without breaching your base.
Actions That Break Your Shield
A Shield of Peace stays active until its timer expires or you perform an aggressive action against another player. The barrier drops the moment an aggressive march departs.
The following PvP actions immediately cancel your shield:
- Sending scouts to an enemy city, outpost, or occupied resource node.
- Marching an army to attack an enemy city or occupied resource tile.
- Joining or reinforcing an offensive clan rally against a player target.
- Attacking any world objective or structure occupied by another player.
Player-versus-environment (PvE) activities do not drop your shield. You can safely hunt neutral world monsters, explore crypts, and gather from unoccupied resource nodes without exposing your base to counterattacks.
When to Activate a Shield
Because shields cost resources or clan currency, deploy them during high-risk windows rather than keeping them active continuously:
- Kingdom versus Kingdom (KvK) and Clash for the Throne: Enemy kingdoms actively hunt player cities for kill points during these events. Running a shield for the full event duration protects your troops from organized rallies.
- Large Construction and Research Projects: Storing tens of millions of wood, iron, or silver exceeds your warehouse protection thresholds. Shield your city while accumulating these materials until you spend them on upgrades.
- Extended Offline Periods: Activate a shield whenever you cannot monitor the game, especially if your clan hive sits near hostile territory.
| Scenario | Shield Recommendation | Primary Defensive Objective |
|---|---|---|
| Kingdom vs. Kingdom (KvK) | Mandatory | Prevents hostile kingdom players from wiping your garrison for event points. |
| Major Upgrades | Recommended | Safeguards stockpiles that exceed your warehouse resource protection cap. |
| Extended Absence | Recommended | Protects unspent resources and resting armies while you are offline. |
| Inactive Map Gathering | Not Needed | Gathering from empty tiles does not drop shields, but gathering troops stay exposed. |
Acquiring and Managing Shield Durations
Shields are available in fixed duration tiers, including 2-hour, 8-hour, 24-hour, 3-day, and 7-day variants. You can purchase them with gold, but buying them from the Clan Store using loyalty points earned through daily clan help and contributions is more cost-effective. Keep at least two medium-duration shields in your inventory to respond quickly if enemy players relocate near your coordinates.
When chaining shields, monitor the remaining time on your city status bar to ensure your timer covers your entire offline window.
Defensive Alternatives Without a Shield
If you run out of shields, use passive mitigation strategies to limit damage from incoming attacks:
- Hide your combat troops: Send your main armies to reinforce a heavily fortified clan citadel, or place them into long-duration garrison marches to keep them off your city walls.
- Empty your exposed resources: Invest surplus silver and materials into troop recruitment, technology research, or clan vault deposits so unshielded stores stay below your warehouse protection cap.
An attacker hitting a city with hidden armies and protected resources expends march stamina without gaining significant loot or inflicting permanent troop losses.
