The Reaper, also known as "Death," is the ultimate endurance test in Vampire Survivors+. Appearing at the 30-minute mark of every stage, he is designed to end your run immediately. However, it is entirely possible to kill him. The most consistent way to secure the kill and unlock the character Red Death is to utilize the "Clerici Library Cheese" strategy. This method exploits the game’s collision mechanics to trap the Reaper, allowing your Area of Effect (AoE) weapons to chip away at his massive health pool until he falls.

The Strategy: Why Suor Clerici?

While many characters can reach the 30-minute mark, Suor Clerici is the premier choice for this specific task due to her unique passive ability. Clerici begins every run with a significantly increased Area of Effect (AoE). Because the Reaper’s health scales with your level, you need a build that maximizes damage density.

By utilizing Clerici, your King Bible and Santa Water cover a wider radius, ensuring that when the Reaper is trapped, he is constantly bathed in damage. This strategy relies on "locking" the Reaper in place so you can focus entirely on maintaining your defensive perimeter.

Essential Build for the Reaper Encounter

To take down a boss with millions of hit points, you cannot rely on standard weapons. You need a build optimized for sustained, high-damage output.

  • King Bible (Unholy Vespers): This is your primary defensive barrier. Evolving the King Bible into the Unholy Vespers is non-negotiable, as it provides a permanent, never-ending orbit that knocks back smaller enemies and shreds the Reaper’s health.
  • Santa Water (La Borra): La Borra creates puddles that grow and move toward your character. When you are standing still in a corner, these puddles stack on top of your position, creating a "kill zone" that deals massive damage to anything trying to reach you.
  • Empty Tome: Essential for cooldown reduction. The faster your weapons fire, the higher your damage-per-second (DPS).
  • Spinach: A flat damage multiplier that is vital for scaling your output against the Reaper's health pool.
  • Candelabrador: This increases your AoE, further expanding the reach of your Unholy Vespers and La Borra.

The Library Positioning Trick

The "Library" stage is the only location where this strategy is viable because of its specific environmental geometry. Unlike open stages, the Library features bookshelves and narrow corridors that you can use to your advantage.

  1. Find the Alcove: Head toward the right side of the Library. Look for a small recessed area or an alcove blocked by a table or bookshelf.
  2. The Collision Lock: You need to position Clerici so that she is wedged into a corner. When the Reaper spawns at the 30-minute mark, he will try to move toward your character. If you are positioned correctly behind a piece of furniture, the Reaper’s movement AI will path him into the table or the wall.
  3. The "Cheese" Effect: Because the Reaper is blocked by the environment, he will be unable to reach you directly. He will simply jitter against the object, keeping him firmly inside your La Borra pools and the orbit of your Unholy Vespers.

Executing the Kill

Once the Reaper is successfully trapped, the fight becomes a waiting game. Here are the practical steps to ensure you don't lose focus:

  • Do Not Move: Once the Reaper is pinned, stay perfectly still. Any movement on your part can cause the Reaper to "un-stick" from the geometry, potentially allowing him to touch you and end your run instantly.
  • Manage Your Screen: If you have other items, ensure they don't push the Reaper away. The goal is to keep him in the highest concentration of your AoE damage.
  • Patience is Key: The Reaper has health that scales with your character level. Even with a perfect build, it may take several minutes for his health bar to deplete. Do not panic if it looks like he is taking no damage; his health pool is simply that large.

Why Red Death is Worth the Effort

Once you finally deplete the Reaper's health, he will be defeated, and the game will end. Upon returning to the main menu, you will see that Red Death is unlocked.

Red Death is arguably the best character in Vampire Survivors+. He starts with the Death Spiral (the evolved version of the Axe), which is one of the strongest weapons in the game for clearing massive waves of enemies. Additionally, Red Death possesses a high base movement speed and a significant boost to damage, making him the perfect character for farming gold, completing difficult challenges, or simply steamrolling through late-game levels.

Troubleshooting Common Mistakes

  • Killing the Reaper too early: If you reach level 100+ too quickly, the Reaper’s health will scale to astronomical levels, making him nearly impossible to kill. Try to manage your experience gain so you aren't unnecessarily over-leveled.
  • Improper Cornering: If the Reaper is still able to move, you haven't found the correct collision point. Practice finding the "tight" spots in the Library before the 30-minute mark.
  • Lack of Evolved Weapons: Never attempt this fight without evolved weapons. The raw damage from base-level weapons is insufficient to overcome the Reaper’s regeneration and health pool. Ensure you have picked up the corresponding passive items (e.g., Spellbinder for King Bible, Attractorb for Santa Water) to enable evolution before the 30-minute mark.

By mastering this positioning strategy, you turn one of the most intimidating encounters in Vampire Survivors+ into a calculated, manageable process. Focus on your build, find your alcove, and claim your victory.
