That extra viewable space helps you judge where a safe route exists through a tightening wave, recognize when it is worth circling back for unattended pickups, and keep track of threats while moving toward a more favorable position. Keyboard-and-mouse input is also well suited to repeated movement and quick directional adjustments during long survival sessions, when maintaining a clean path through enemies is more important than issuing elaborate commands.
