To beat Levels 3 and 4 in Vampirio: Defend & Survive, you must wall off split approach paths, set overlapping ranged fire behind narrow choke points, and use your hero to eliminate torchbearers before they set wooden defenses on fire. Levels 3 and 4 introduce split enemy pathways and high-threat specialized units, making unfortified lanes fatal to your core sanctum.

Fortifying Split Choke Points

Surviving nighttime attacks in Levels 3 and 4 requires establishing barriers across every lane before waves arrive. Earlier stages feature concentrated single-lane pressure, but these mid-tier stages split incoming waves across multiple corridors. If you leave any route open, enemies bypass your perimeter and force your hero into long recovery sprints.

  • Block narrow corridors: Place barriers across the tightest passages leading to your sanctum. Forcing monsters into bottlenecks clusters their hitboxes together, maximizing the impact of cleaving attacks and area-of-effect skills.
  • Cover secondary paths: Level 4 enemies probe open corridors when primary paths are blocked. Construct at least a basic wall across every side route to delay off-lane pushes and buy rotation time.
  • Avoid open-field walls: Placing barricades in wide clearings allows mobs to wrap around your perimeter, negating structural defenses.

Positioning Ranged Defenders

Deploy ranged attackers behind your barriers or along recessed positions where their attack arcs converge over the primary bottleneck. Ground-level units placed in front of walls take direct melee damage and fall quickly against Level 3 and 4 assault groups.

Keep ranged units two paces behind barricades rather than flush against the structure. Hostile melee units striking a wall deal cleave damage that can eliminate defenders standing too close to the front edge. Concentrating your archers and spellcasters so their ranges overlap over a single choke point ensures high-health targets take combined damage before reaching your barricade.

Resource Upgrades: Barriers Versus Troops

Upgrading barrier durability provides better defensive returns than expanding your roster with basic units in Levels 3 and 4. Fragile recruits quickly die to incoming ranged fire and splash damage if they lack solid cover.

Investment ChoiceTactical AdvantagePrimary Risk or Trade-OffRecommended Timing
Barrier ReinforcementMultiplies wall durability; delays armored unitsHigh upfront cost; provides zero direct damagePre-wave setup and early assault phases
Roster ExpansionIncreases total damage output across lanesUnits remain fragile; susceptible to enemy cleaveAfter primary choke points are reinforced
Hero Damage UpgradesEnhances burst clearing and solo lane holdingRequires active hero presence to be effectiveTransition periods between major waves

Upgrade your main wooden barricades into fortified palisades before spending resources on extra combat minions. A reinforced wall withstands heavy siege pressure in Level 4, preventing breaches that divide your attention across multiple failing lanes.

Handling Torchbearers and Armored Foes

Levels 3 and 4 introduce torch-wielding attackers that inflict burning damage-over-time on wooden structures, as well as heavily armored infantry that shield backline enemies. Because automated defenses target the closest incoming hostile—often an armored vanguard—you must control target priority manually.

  1. Intercept torchbearers immediately: Move your hero forward to eliminate torchbearers as soon as they appear in the lane. Preventing fire damage preserves wall health and lets your static barriers absorb the slower armored units.
  2. Break armored frontliners: Once incendiary threats are clear, direct single-target burst abilities or armor-piercing damage into the remaining heavy infantry.
  3. Clear stragglers at the barrier: Allow overlapping ranged fire to clean up remaining regular mobs while your hero repositions to the next threatened lane.

Managing Repairs and Wave Resources

Failing to maintain a repair reserve during combat is the primary cause of late-wave collapses in Level 4. Walls take cumulative damage across consecutive waves, making mid-battle maintenance essential.

Monitor your barrier health bars between enemy clusters. During lulls, spend collected resources to repair existing damaged walls rather than constructing new ones. Patching an active barrier costs significantly less time and currency than replacing a completely destroyed structure. Collect all dropped essence and combat resources near the perimeter immediately to ensure you have enough reserves to repair barricades during the final assault wave.
