To capture a Level 1 Port in Viking Rise, your tribe must construct an unbroken chain of territory banners linking an active Tribe Fortress directly to the port border, defeat the neutral guardian garrison via a coordinated rally, and defend the structure throughout the occupation countdown. Securing the port unlocks naval navigation across rivers, opens access to offshore gathering nodes, and allows your tribe to expand banners into adjacent territories.

Prerequisites and Territory Setup

You cannot declare an assault or initiate a rally against a Level 1 Port without meeting two structural requirements:

  • Contiguous Banner Connection: Your tribe's territory banners must touch the port's perimeter without gaps. If an enemy breaks the banner chain or severs the connection to your Tribe Fortress, the game locks the port against assault declarations.
  • Kingdom Contested Status: Check the kingdom timer to confirm the port has entered its contested phase before mobilizing forces.

To minimize travel delays, instruct participating chiefs to relocate their cities near the port perimeter or deploy forward staging camps. Long march lines delay reinforcements and make rally coordination difficult. Tribe leadership should schedule the attack and notify participants 15 to 30 minutes beforehand so players can stage their armies.

Rally Commander Roles and Lineups

Never send solo attacks against an unweakened neutral port garrison. Individual marches take heavy casualties without making meaningful progress against the guardians' durability. Instead, appoint designated rally captains based on high Tribe Hall levels and leadership tree investments to maximize troop capacity.

The following hero pairings fill specific operational roles during the assault and subsequent defense:

RoleRecommended HeroesPrimary Focus
Primary Rally LeadBjorn / IvarHigh PvE skill damage, troop capacity expansion, and offensive output
Secondary Rally LeadLaird / CeciaMarch survivability, defense boosts, and steady sustained combat
Garrison AnchorGregory / VerdandiDamage reduction, counterattack, and sustain to hold the port

When launching the assault rally, set a 5-minute departure timer to allow nearby tribe members sufficient time to fill march slots. Instruct members to send combat units matching the rally captain's needs—typically infantry for damage absorption alongside archers or spearmen for neutral-target damage. Do not join rallies with low-tier gathering troops, as they reduce overall combat strength and increase casualties.

Defeating the Port Garrison

Neutral guardians possess large health pools and utilize area-of-effect abilities. Manage the battle using the following sequence:

  1. Initiate with the Primary Rally: Send the main offensive rally to absorb the opening counterattacks and establish combat contact.
  2. Keep Open-Field Armies Clear: Position non-rallied field units outside the port's combat boundary to prevent them from taking collateral splash damage from guardian skills.
  3. Monitor Attrition and Reinforce: Watch the primary rally's health bar. If the rally falls below 50% health while guardians remain standing, launch a secondary rally immediately to overlap damage, or stream fresh reinforcement marches directly into the active rally.
  4. Maintain Continuous Pressure: Defeat the defenders before the engagement timer resets. If the assault window expires without a clear victory, the guardians will regenerate health, forcing the tribe to restart the encounter.

Holding the Occupation Bar

Defeating the neutral guardians does not grant immediate ownership. The battle enters an occupation phase, requiring your tribe to hold the structure continuously until the occupation timer fills completely. During this period, rival tribes can launch attacks to contest or claim the port.

The offensive rally lead should exit once the guardians fall. Immediately place a garrison specialist—such as Gregory paired with Verdandi—into the structure to serve as the garrison anchor. Tribe members must send reinforcement marches to max out the port's garrison capacity. Once the occupation bar completes, the Level 1 Port is secured and permanent naval transit opens for your tribe.
