To get the most value out of your barracks in War Inc: Rising, focus promotion resources on multi-model frontline tanks, crowd-control brawlers, and utility debuffers while treating pure single-target melee damage dealers as fodder.

Because Epic copies accumulate faster through standard recruitment chests and barracks progression than rare Legendary units, a 7-star or 8-star Epic troop routinely provides higher baseline health, defense, and total squad volume than a stalled 4-star Legendary. Knowing which functional roles justify investment ensures your formation holds lanes effectively across campaign chapters and Arena seasons.

Frontline Anchors and Lane Control

Your front line requires units that mitigate burst damage and control enemy pathing. Fragile melee attackers placed in the opening ranks die before dealing meaningful damage.

  • Heavy Vanguard Bruisers (Rows 1–2): Deploy multi-figure melee squads (such as four-model or nine-model units) directly in the front two rows. Distributing incoming hits across multiple models disperses single-target burst abilities and heavy boss hits, preventing early squad wipes. Prioritize units with flat damage-reduction passives over those with life-steal, as life-steal fails if the unit is stunned or debuffed.
  • Crowd-Control Brawlers (Rows 1–2, Columns 3 & 5): Melee Epics with stuns, knockbacks, or taunts belong slightly off-center. This placement forces opposing squads to bunch together as they engage, funneling them into your backline area-of-effect (AoE) abilities.
  • Secondary Anchors (Row 2): Position high-defense squads directly behind your initial line to catch enemy units that break through and stop flankers from reaching your ranged lines.

Backline Utility and Board Positioning

While pure ranged damage units eventually face competition from high-tier damage carries, utility-focused ranged Epics maintain value regardless of roster shifts.

Troop FunctionOptimal Board PlacementPrimary Battlefield Objective
Crowd-Control RangedRows 4–5, Center (Columns 3–5)Slow, freeze, or interrupt charging frontline squads
Sustained DebuffersRows 5–6, Protected FlanksApply armor shred, poison, or anti-heal to opposing tanks
Rear InterceptorsRow 7, Corners (Columns 1 & 7)Absorb rear assassin teleports and stall backline jumpers

Placing slowing and disruption units in Rows 4 and 5 creates a control zone that delays approaching melee threats. Pair them with debuffers on the flanks to shred enemy armor, boosting the physical and skill damage dealt by the rest of your lineup.

Countering Rear Infiltrators

Leaving squishy ranged carries on Row 7 exposes them to immediate defeats against assassin-heavy Arena squads. Teleporting and leaping infiltrators automatically target the rearmost rank upon entering combat.

To neutralize this threat:

  1. Place a durable, multi-model Epic melee squad on Row 7 in the corner opposite the enemy infiltrator's jump path.
  2. Allow the infiltrator to lock onto the durable models, forcing the enemy unit to waste time cutting through a multi-figure health pool.
  3. Use the delay to let your nearby mid-row ranged squads turn and eliminate the stranded flanker.

Investment and Fodder Priorities

Avoid spreading promotion tokens evenly across your barracks. Concentrate your materials using these rules:

  • Promote First: Multi-model frontline tanks with damage mitigation, crowd-control brawlers, and persistent armor-shredding debuffers.
  • Promote Second: Rearguard stall units and specialized ranged units with attack- or movement-speed slows.
  • Hold as Fodder: Pure melee damage dealers that lack defensive passives, self-shields, or crowd control, as well as basic single-target archers lacking status effects.

Before taking any Epic troop past intermediate star milestones, confirm that your current roster already has at least two durable frontline anchors and one dedicated rearguard interceptor. Strengthening these defensive and control roles provides a stable foundation for the rest of your squad.
