To defend your base against hostile player swarms in Warpath: Ace Shooter, position your long-range artillery directly behind your main base structure and cycle damaged frontline units in and out of the garrison. Your base building serves as a physical line-of-sight barrier, preventing enemy units from shooting straight through your footprint while forcing them into turret crossfire.

Use Base Collision as Line-of-Sight Cover

Enemy units in Warpath: Ace Shooter cannot path through or fire through friendly buildings. When attackers approach, automated targeting prioritizes the closest available hostile unit or the perimeter of the base itself.

Placing long-range units—such as Howitzers, Rocket Artillery, and Anti-Tank guns—behind your main base building creates a physical obstacle:

  • Pathing Disruption: Short-range units like Light and Medium Tanks must route around the wide corners of the base footprint to acquire line of sight on your backline.
  • Uncontested Damage: While enemy tanks travel around the perimeter corners, your defensive base turrets and rear artillery continuously fire without taking return shots.
  • Chokepoint Control: Attackers bunch up along the outer corners of the base, concentrating them into high-value strike zones for area-of-effect artillery.

Reset Target Locks by Cycling the Garrison

Leaving combat units deployed in the open field in front of your walls leads to fast wipeouts against coordinated enemy focus fire. Use the base garrison to drop target locks and control damage intake:

  1. Bait Initial Attacks: Position your heavy armor at the entrance choke to draw enemy skill bursts and basic attacks.
  2. Recall to Drop Aggro: The moment armor or defensive shields begin to fail, pull the squad inside the base. Attacking units instantly lose lock and default to targeting the high-durability base structure or perimeter turrets.
  3. Avoid Hospital Costs: Units garrisoned inside do not take open-field damage, eliminating unnecessary field-revival hospital costs.
  4. Counter-Attack: Once enemy units commit their firing animations to the base wall, redeploy your heavy tanks or tank destroyers to strike from their flanks.

Never keep every unit inside indefinitely. Unopposed enemy artillery will steadily erode base durability. Cycle units out to disrupt attackers, then pull back before taking fatal losses.

Defensive Unit Placement

Assign defending units to specific zones around your base perimeter based on range and durability.

Base Durability and Repair Management

Your base hit points serve as an expendable buffer that buys time for your guns to clear attacking squads. However, letting durability hit zero results in burning or forced relocation, which scatters your army.

  • Extinguish Fires Promptly: Sustained damage sets the base on fire, dealing damage over time to remaining structure points. Put out fires early to preserve base integrity.
  • Deploy Peace Shields Under Swarms: If facing a coordinated rally or overwhelming numerical disadvantage, activate a peace shield before durability reaches critical levels.
  • Time Field Repair Kits: Avoid using rapid repair kits on units actively taking concentrated fire. Apply repairs after retreating units into the garrison or once priority enemy damage dealers have been destroyed.

Defensive Mistakes to Avoid

  • Chasing Retreating Enemies: Pursuing damaged attackers pulls your units out of defensive turret range and exposes them to open-field crossfire. Hold your position within your base's defensive envelope.
  • Exposing Fragile Units: Never deploy light artillery or anti-tank guns outside the perimeter footprint without a frontline shield. Their low durability and limited mobility leave them vulnerable to fast-moving medium tanks and flankers. Keep them anchored behind the main structure line.
