To run Phoenix effectively in Zenless Zone Zero, build him with hybrid Crit Rate, Crit DMG, and Anomaly Proficiency Drive Discs rather than standard pure-Anomaly stats. Phoenix enables attribute debuffs and Disorder procs to score critical hits. Missing critical hits on low-frequency Anomaly triggers drops damage significantly, making balanced stat thresholds essential for endgame modes like Deadly Assault.

Because Phoenix multiplies base Anomaly damage with critical strikes, his gear requires primary and secondary critical attributes alongside Anomaly stats.

Stat Benchmarks and Set Bonuses

  • Set Combinations: Equip a 4-piece set that rewards continuous offensive field time or elemental burst damage to maximize basic attack and EX Special skill uptime. Pair it with a 2-piece set that grants flat Crit Rate or Anomaly Proficiency.
  • Crit Target: Reach at least 60% Crit Rate before investing heavily into Crit DMG above 120%. Because Anomaly and Disorder procs occur as single burst instances, low Crit Rate causes inconsistent overall damage.
  • Buildup Speed: Use Partition 6 Anomaly Mastery to fill the elemental gauge quickly and hit trigger thresholds before temporary combat buffs fade.

Team Setup and Rotation Order

Phoenix requires an off-field elemental partner to trigger frequent Disorder bursts. If Phoenix does not trigger the final anomaly proc, the resulting Disorder hit will not inherit his critical stats.

Team Archetypes

  • Dual-Disorder Core: Pair Phoenix with a secondary Anomaly agent who applies off-field elemental buildup. Phoenix takes the field to trigger the opposing Anomaly, creating a critical Disorder strike.
  • Offensive Support: Use a support agent in the third slot to provide ATK buffs, Energy Generation, Crit DMG bonuses, or elemental anomaly resistance shred.
  • Stun Alternative: A dedicated impact stunner can replace the support slot to create vulnerability windows against bosses, amplifying critical Disorder bursts during stun phases.
  • Teammates to Avoid: Do not run units that require sustained on-field time without applying off-field anomaly buildup, as they stall Phoenix's rotation cadence.

Combat Rotation

  1. Prime the Gauge: Start combat with your secondary Anomaly character and build the enemy's elemental meter to roughly 85% to 90% without completing the proc.
  2. Buff and Shred: Swap to your support agent to apply energy buffs, attack increases, or enemy resistance reduction.
  3. Trigger Critical Disorder: Switch Phoenix in using a Quick Assist or EX Special skill. Phoenix completes the remaining gauge to apply his Anomaly, immediately detonating Disorder with his active Crit Rate and Crit DMG values.
  4. Reset: Keep Phoenix on-field to build his own elemental attribute gauge, preparing the target for the next cycle.

Investment Trade-Offs

Standard Anomaly characters only require Character Level, Attack, and Anomaly Proficiency, making them relatively cheap to gear. Phoenix requires farming four distinct substats: Crit Rate, Crit DMG, Anomaly Proficiency, and ATK%.

If his gear lacks sufficient Crit Rate, his performance can fall below budget Anomaly builds due to missed critical procs. Once geared with proper Partition 4 and 5 pieces, however, his ability to critical strike on Disorder procs removes the standard damage ceiling of pure Anomaly teams.
