To clear the early levels of Chapter 1 in Zombie Night Terror, you must direct your mindless shamblers using precise syringe placements and Overlord turning points. Standard zombies walk forward continuously until they hit an obstacle or fall. Surviving each stage requires trapping civilians against dead ends, blocking fatal ledges, and pooling your horde to break down doors before targets escape.
Controlling the Initial Outbreak with Patient Zero
Your starting syringe determines the path of your entire horde. Civilians immediately panic and sprint in the opposite direction when they see or hear a zombie. If you infect a human in an open hallway or near a staircase, the remaining survivors scatter toward exits, forcing you to waste mutations to chase them down.
- Target dead ends: Inject civilians standing near closed rooms or alley walls. This traps adjacent survivors against geometry so your first zombie converts them instantly.
- Wait for crossing paths: Civilians follow fixed patrol routes before alarms trigger. Administer the syringe when two or more humans walk past each other to guarantee an immediate multi-kill chain reaction.
- Avoid open corridors: Never infect a target who is actively moving toward an open street exit or stairwell unless you already have a blocker in position.
Directing Horde Pathing with Overlords
Shamblers do not possess navigation instincts; they walk in straight lines until an obstacle redirects them. Converting a zombie into an Overlord permanently immobilizes that unit, but it gives you total control over the direction of the pack.
| Mutation / Action | Primary Role | Core Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Syringe Injection | Starts the outbreak on a selected human | Triggers panic if used within civilian line of sight |
| Overlord Blocker | Redirects shamblers left or right | Permanently immobilizes the converted zombie |
| Horde Stacking | Groups units together to smash barriers quickly | Halts forward progress while the pack gathers |
Clicking an Overlord toggles an arrow pointing left or right, forcing every shambler that touches the Overlord to turn in that direction. When aiming zombies toward staircases, place the Overlord one or two steps back from the landing. If placed directly on the edge or doorway threshold, shamblers can misalign with the path and get stuck against door frames.
Breaching Doors and Clearing Rooms
A single zombie attacks barricaded wooden doors too slowly, giving humans on the other side time to run deeper into the building or trigger alarms.
To break barriers cleanly:
- Establish a holding point: Use an Overlord or a solid wall to reverse your shamblers so they pace back and forth in a confined area.
- Stack your forces: Allow at least five zombies to gather into a compact group.
- Release toward the door: Switch the Overlord’s direction toward the barrier. The combined damage of the clustered pack will destroy the door in seconds, overwhelming the occupants before they can scatter.
Preventing Fatal Falls and Bottlenecks
Unchecked shamblers will walk off rooftops, fire escapes, and broken floors. Any vertical drop exceeding standard fall height splatters the zombie on impact, permanently reducing your numbers and risking level failure.
Always position an Overlord at least one tile back from any unguarded ledge or elevator shaft to turn the horde back toward interior routes. When moving through narrow vents or single-tile doors, the horde naturally thins out into a single-file line. If your attack front becomes too thin to catch running humans, hold the lead units with an Overlord until trailing zombies catch up, then release them as a dense wave.
