To win military engagements in Age of Spirits, build marches around the rock-paper-scissors troop counter system, pair heroes with beasts that boost the same unit discipline, and coordinate alliance rallies along connected territory borders.

Troop Counter Triangle

Combat outcomes depend heavily on unit class advantages. Scout enemy garrisons and field formations before deploying, then assemble an army that directly counters the opponent's primary troop type.

  • Melee Warriors (Infantry): High-health front-line units with defensive mitigations. They absorb charge damage and counter Beast Riders.
  • Beast Riders (Cavalry): Fast mounted units that close distances rapidly. They counter Hunters by inflicting heavy damage before ranged skills cycle.
  • Hunters (Ranged): Long-range damage dealers with high burst potential. They counter Melee Warriors by attacking from safety behind front lines.

Sending the wrong unit discipline results in steep casualties. For example, assaulting a Hunter-heavy settlement with Melee Warriors will deplete your front line before reaching the walls. Deploying Beast Riders against those same Hunters clears the defense with minimal losses.

Hero and Beast Pairing Mechanics

Field marches are led by tribal heroes who determine march capacity, passive stat boosts, and active abilities triggered by rage buildup. To maximize march effectiveness:

  1. Match specialties: Pair an Infantry hero with an ancient beast that grants defensive and health bonuses, or a Beast Rider hero with a raptor- or sabertooth-class companion to stack march speed and critical strike rate.
  2. Align the secondary hero: Ensure your secondary commander shares the primary hero's unit focus rather than splitting bonuses across different unit types.
  3. Avoid hybrid troop marches: Marches focused on a single troop type benefit fully from unified hero and beast buffs, outperforming mixed-discipline armies.

Alliance Territory Expansion and Rallies

Territorial control in Age of Spirits expands outward from your central Alliance Fortress through an unbroken chain of watchtowers.

  • Border connectivity rule: Your alliance cannot attack enemy structures or seize neutral map objectives unless your alliance border connects directly to the target tile.
  • Rally capacity and staging: Solo attacks on fortified border towers cause heavy hospital congestion. Have the player with the highest rally capacity and strongest offensive hero start the rally using a five-minute staging timer.
  • Troop matching: Reinforcing alliance members should send only the troop type that matches the rally leader's combat specialization. A rally led by a Hunter specialist must be filled entirely with Hunters to maximize active perks.

Contesting Neutral Map Forts

Neutral map objectives yield alliance-wide passive bonuses once conquered and held through a capture countdown.

Structure ObjectiveStrategic ValueAttack Strategy
Fertile SanctuariesResource gathering and storage capacity buffsSustained multi-march assault with Melee front-line absorption
Mountain PassesControls passage between regional map tiersFast Beast Rider vanguard to intercept incoming enemy reinforcements
Ancient MonolithsTroop lethality, defense, and march speed boostsMaximum-capacity rally focused on Hunter damage output

Always scout guardian strength before attacking a neutral monument. After defeating the guardians, post individual member marches in an outer perimeter around the structure to intercept rival alliance forces before they can strike the capturing garrison.

Defense and Garrison Management

When an enemy rally targets your settlement, assign a tank-focused defense hero as the primary wall commander and request reinforcements in alliance chat. Reinforcing members should prioritize Melee Warriors to preserve the defender's core units.

If an incoming rally is too large to defend and reinforcements cannot arrive in time, dodge the attack. Send all offensive marches out of your settlement to an unassailable alliance structure or a distant resource tile. This preserves your active army and denies the attacker kill points while your alliance prepares a counter-attack.
