To explore voxel sandbox levels in ALLfiring efficiently, dig out paths with dedicated gathering tools instead of weapons, place common blocks to build bridges and staircases over terrain obstacles, and always keep a backup tool in your bag so you do not become trapped underground.
Destructible voxel terrain in these side-scrolling maps lets you reshape the environment to access hidden ledges, neutralize hazards, and create tactical cover during combat.
Mining Terrain and Managing Tool Durability
Every block in ALLfiring features an inherent hardness value that dictates how many strikes it takes to break. While primary combat weapons can slowly damage soft blocks, dedicated gathering equipment deals substantially higher structural damage and speeds up path excavation.
- Dig in stepped angles: Avoid digging straight down. Excavating in a diagonal, stepped sequence prevents your character from dropping into subterranean enemy nests or deep pits you cannot jump out of.
- Preserve tool durability: Mining blocks consumes tool durability. Keep a secondary gathering tool in your quick-access slots so you can carve an exit if your primary tool breaks mid-run.
- Sort backpack space: Common soil and rough stone stack in your inventory and serve as disposable construction materials. Discard surplus low-tier dirt if your inventory fills up, ensuring you retain bag space for rare mined ores and progression items.
Scaling Vertical Obstacles and Gaps
Character double jumps and dashes have fixed height and distance limits. To scale high cliffs or cross wide voids, place stored blocks directly into the level grid. Block placement requires line-of-sight and must anchor to an adjacent solid surface.
- Diagonal Staircases: Place blocks upward in a continuous diagonal line. This creates a ramp your character can run up without jumping repeatedly, which conserves stamina.
- Safety Catches: When scaling a tall vertical wall, place a horizontal ledge extending outward every four to five blocks. These platforms catch your character if you suffer knockback or miss a jump.
- Crouch-Bridging: To cross deep drops or spike floors, crouch at the ledge edge and place single-layer horizontal blocks forward across the opening. Move deliberately, as input delay on touch controls can cause placement gaps.
Countering Environmental Hazards
Instead of executing high-risk jumps across environmental traps, use voxel placement to eliminate the hazard directly.
| Hazard | Primary Threat | Voxel Countermeasure | Useful Material |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acid or Lava Pools | High continuous damage | Place a horizontal cap directly over the liquid surface | Hardened Rock or Cobblestone |
| Spike Traps | Severe puncture damage | Fill the pit completely or build an elevated bridge above it | Basic Soil or Scrap Blocks |
| Overhead Debris | Falling stalactites and projectiles | Construct a flat protective ceiling two blocks overhead | Dense Stone or Metal Plates |
| Vertical Chasms | Lethal falls or blocked progress | Carve switchback steps or build anchored wall platforms | Any common solid block |
Constructing Tactical Combat Cover
Player-built structures alter combat encounters against tough enemies and elite bosses:
- Erect projectile barriers: When facing ranged snipers or heavy projectile volleys, place a vertical wall two to three blocks high. This breaks enemy line-of-sight and provides safe space to wait out skill cooldowns or use recovery items.
- Establish elevated vantage points: Build a platform above melee enemies to attack safely with ranged skills without taking direct ground damage.
- Reposition before structures break: Bosses and heavy elites can destroy player-placed blocks with explosive or ground-slam attacks. Treat your built walls as temporary shields, and rotate to a new position as soon as your cover begins to take structural damage.

Can you add more details about base building in a future update?
This saved me time in the early game.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This helped me understand base building much better.
