To beat Level 99 in Block Out, immediately clear out one column to create a dedicated empty buffer tube. Each tube holds four block units, and you can only place a block onto an empty tube or onto a matching top color with remaining vertical capacity. Level 99 starts with fragmented color stacks across several tubes, making careless moves an instant deadlock risk.
Create an Empty Buffer Tube First
Your opening priority is emptying a single column entirely so you have room to cycle obstructing blocks. Do not scatter different colors across partially filled tubes to make temporary room, as this locks down your available slots.
- Scan the board for a column that contains only two color segments or has top blocks that can immediately merge into existing matching stacks.
- Transfer the top blocks off that chosen column into matching open stacks elsewhere.
- Move the base block into a matching stack or an open staging slot to empty the tube completely.
- Keep this newly cleared tube vacant rather than parking unrelated blocks inside it permanently.
Target Surface Matches Before Digging Deep
Consolidating matching colors from the top layers opens up the board and reveals the blocks resting underneath. Focus moves on colors that can be combined immediately.
| Color Position | Recommended Action | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Top-layer pairs | Merge into a single target tube | Consolidates color volume and reveals sub-layers |
| Single top block over a target color | Shift temporarily into the buffer tube | Exposes needed matching blocks underneath |
| Buried base block | Leave alone until direct path is open | Avoids filling slots with unmatchable pieces |
Before moving a surface block, check what sits beneath it. Prioritize moves that expose a color you can immediately combine with an existing stack.
Uncover Buried Colors Without Creating Deadlocks
Extracting deeply buried blocks requires cycling pieces through your empty buffer tube without clogging it.
- Verify that your buffer tube is completely empty.
- Move the top obstructing block into the empty buffer tube.
- If a second obstructing block remains over your target, transfer it directly onto a matching open stack in another column.
- Extract the exposed target block and drop it onto its matching color stack.
- Immediately move the parked block out of the buffer tube and into a valid matching position to restore the open lane.
Consolidate the Final Columns
Once you complete two full four-block single-color stacks, those tubes are permanently resolved, giving you more breathing room.
- Assign dedicated lanes: Designate each remaining open column for one specific color rather than splitting colors across tubes.
- Transfer remaining segments: Move loose segments directly into their assigned home columns in uninterrupted sequences.
- Finish the stacks: Use your extra open space to shift remaining blocks into solid four-block columns until the puzzle clears.

I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
Good guide for Block Out players. The early game part was useful.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
