Track what your opponent spends and what they have already played before committing to an attack. On defense, use the least expensive response that can handle the threat, then consider whether surviving troops can support a counter-push.
Track elixir before committing
Compare the cost of the threat with the cost of your response. Spending more elixir than your opponent did can leave you with fewer resources for the next exchange, so avoid adding extra cards to a defense that is already working.
If you reach the elixir cap, playing a low-cost card can prevent further elixir from going unused. Don’t cycle a card just to act, though: keep enough elixir to answer a threat if your opponent plays one.
Place defenders for the threat
Spread out troops when an opponent’s area-damage spell could hit multiple targets. Choose placements based on the cards in play rather than treating one position as safe in every matchup.
Against a ground attacker such as Prince or P.E.K.K.A., Skeletons or Ice Spirit can serve as distractions if they pull the attacker away from your tower. Their value depends on placement and timing; have your Princess Towers help finish the defense.
Turn a defense into pressure
After defending, check whether any troops survived before spending more elixir. You can add support as they move toward the bridge, but avoid committing your full push if the opponent still has a key counter available.
If you know your opponent has Log and you plan to use Goblin Barrel, watch for when they spend Log. An opposing card being out of hand may create an opening, but it does not guarantee that the attack will connect.
When your opponent spends heavily in one lane, consider applying pressure in the other. Do this only if you can still defend what they have committed.
Use card-cycle information
Keep track of cards your opponent has played, especially the answers to your win condition or air units. In an eight-card deck, after four cards are played, the first card returns to the hand. That cycle can help you estimate when a previously used answer may be available again.
Use the same tracking for your own deck so you know what cards you can play next. Make your next move based on the threat and the cards available, rather than assuming an opponent has run out of answers.
