Track the cards your opponent plays so you can judge when their win condition or a key counter may be unavailable. Use that opening to consider a push, but first make sure you can still afford a response to their next attack.
Watch for gaps in the opponent’s rotation
Keep a mental record of the opponent’s cards, especially their main offensive threat and the cards that stop your own push. When those cards have been played, they may not be ready to use again. That can give you a window to attack or defend with less risk of facing them immediately.
If the opponent places a high-cost unit in the back, assess whether you can pressure the opposite lane or prepare a defense. Don’t assume the move leaves them unable to respond: consider which cards they have already played and how much elixir you need to defend their push.
Defend without spending your next response
Use placements that draw attacking units away from your towers and let other defenders help finish them. Low-cost troops such as Skeletons or Spirits can kite heavier units toward the center, while a ranged troop can support a sturdier defender against other threats.
Before committing to an attack, account for the elixir you may need to defend. If the opponent appears to have an elixir advantage, hold back and defend until you have a safer opportunity rather than forcing an expensive push.
Turn a successful defense into pressure
After stopping a push, check which of your troops survived. If you can afford the support, add a unit that helps them continue toward the opponent’s tower. A surviving high-health unit can lead the counterpush, but don’t add more cards than you can spare for defense.
The practical sequence is simple: track key cards, defend while keeping a response available, then build around surviving troops when the opponent’s rotation or elixir gives you an opening.
