To survive Apep in Dislyte's Ritual Miracle, you must swap out multi-hit damage dealers for heavy single-hit attackers, maintain consistent debuff cleansing or Immunity, and keep ATK Down active on the boss. Apep wipes teams by retaliating whenever his incoming hit counter fills and by detonating accumulated Poison stacks.
How Apep's Hit Counter and Poison Work
Apep relies on two interacting mechanics to eliminate your squad:
- Wrath Counter: Apep tracks every damage instance he receives. When this threshold is reached, he interrupts the turn order to unleash an immediate area-of-effect blast that inflicts heavy damage and applies Poison stacks to your entire team. Flurry attackers and multi-hit abilities fill this gauge rapidly, causing repeated counterattacks.
- Poison Stacking: Apep applies Poison through standard attacks, skills, and his retaliatory passive. Each Poison stack drains a percentage of max HP on an Esper's turn and multiplies the damage dealt by Apep's burst skills.
Limiting your attackers to single-hit strikes slows the rate of Apep's retaliations, giving your support units time to heal and cleanse before the next passive burst.
Core Squad Roles
Fielding a functional Apep team requires balancing single-hit burst damage with layered cleansing and mitigation.
| Role | Primary Function | Combat Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Immunity Support | Blocks Poison application entirely | Cast preemptively before Apep attacks |
| Active Cleanser | Purges landed debuffs | Cleanse immediately after Apep triggers a counter |
| Burst DPS | Deals heavy single-hit damage | Depletes boss HP without inflating hit counts |
| Defensive Buffer / Debuffer | Mitigates counter burst | Keeps ATK Down on Apep; provides Shields or DEF Up |
Pairing an Immunity buffer with an active cleanser prevents failure if Immunity drops. If Poison does land, an active cleanser purges the stacks before Apep executes his main single-target or area attacks.
Debuff and Stat Priorities
Applying the correct status effects to Apep lowers the stat thresholds required for your team to survive:
- ATK Down: Apep's passive counterattack scales heavily off his offensive stats. Keeping ATK Down on him cuts incoming retaliation damage significantly.
- DEF Down: Lowers the boss's defense, allowing single-hit DPS Espers to deal maximum damage per hit and reduce the total hits needed to finish the fight.
- Recovery Block: Prevents Apep from triggering health regeneration mechanics during the encounter.
- Speed Tuning: Speed tune your primary cleanser to take their turn directly after Apep moves, rather than right before him, ensuring stacks do not linger into your damage dealers' turns.
- Accuracy (ACC): Ensure all debuffers meet necessary ACC checks so ATK Down and DEF Down do not get resisted.
Team Composition and Wave Execution
A reliable baseline formation uses two single-hit damage dealers, two cleansing or sustain supports, and one utility buffer:
- Wave 1 and 2 Management: Conserve vital cooldowns during the preliminary waves. On the final turns of Wave 2, rely on basic attacks so your Immunity, team cleanses, and heavy burst skills are fully available at the start of the boss phase.
- Boss Opening Turn: Apply ATK Down and establish Immunity or defensive buffs before launching heavy attacks.
- Tracking Retaliation: Before an Esper attacks, check Apep's current hit threshold. If your next action triggers his passive retaliation, confirm that your squad has sufficient health, active shields, or DEF buffs to absorb the blast.
- Gear Selection: Equip support units with Wind or Ocean sets to speed up turn frequency and recycle cleanse cooldowns before Apep's next burst.

I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Dislyte articles next.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
