Your starting point is flexible: choose a club or national side from Europe, the Americas, Asia, or elsewhere, then begin shaping a squad around the team you support. From there, the main objective is to build a stronger side and take it onto the field, using your chosen players effectively during matches and improving your team between fixtures. Newcomers are given a practical introduction through a step-by-step tutorial with demonstrations of the basic controls, and completing the tutorial rewards you with Lionel Messi. The Smart Assist setting also provides a more approachable way to play, helping you perform actions such as getting past a defense with a dribble or pass and finishing with a powerful shot without requiring complex commands.

The central progression loop combines match play, player collection, and deliberate squad development. After creating your team, you can sign current superstars and soccer legends, then use them in matches to help them level up. Players can also be improved with in-game items, after which the Progression Points they earn can be spent increasing their Player Stats. The Player Types system gives development more direction, while manual allocation lets you tailor a player to your preferred approach. If you would rather not make every decision yourself, the Recommended function can automatically distribute those points. This makes team building more than simply collecting highly rated names: you are also deciding how signed players should develop and which improvements best suit the way you want to play. Weekly Live Updates add another layer of ongoing management by reflecting real-life player transfers and match achievements. Checking those updates and adjusting your squad can keep the team aligned with the changing soccer landscape described by the game.

Keyboard-and-mouse input can likewise make repeated menu actions and selection-heavy tasks more comfortable, especially when you are navigating tutorials, choosing players, allocating development points, or making weekly squad adjustments. During matches, familiar keyboard controls can help you respond consistently to basic actions while Smart Assist reduces the complexity of advanced commands for players still learning the system.

Beyond matches and player development, eFootball™ gives you ways to personalize the presentation of your team. You can customize a stadium by selecting Stadium Elements such as Tifos and Giant Props, then arrange them so they appear during the matches you play. The result is a game loop that moves from choosing a team and signing players to playing against AI or online opponents, improving the squad, responding to Live Updates, and refining the stadium around it. An internet connection is required to play, and a stable connection is recommended, particularly for the online side of the experience. The base game and updates require approximately 3.2 GB of free storage, so PC players should also make sure enough space is available before downloading.
