To progress cleanly with a fresh Warrior in early Act 1 of Eternium, prioritize upgrading Cleave for sweeping melee damage, use Charge to stun distant threats, and save your gems (rubies) to unlock extra ability slots rather than rushing timers. High weapon damage and Life on Hit will carry your Warrior through early dungeons faster than stacking defensive armor.
Early Ability Setup and Gesture Casting
The Warrior relies on a combination of primary attacks and swipe gestures to clear dungeon packs efficiently. Cleave hits multiple clustered enemies per swing, making it far more effective against swarms of skeletons, bats, and zombies than single-target attacks.
| Ability | Input Method | Combat Function |
|---|---|---|
| Cleave | Primary Tap | Sweeping melee arc that hits multiple clustered enemies |
| Charge | Swipe "V" Pattern | Closes distance, interrupts enemy casts, and applies a stun |
| Whirlwind | Swipe Circle | Sustained area-of-effect damage through dense packs |
To cast gestures reliably during combat, avoid tapping the screen frantically. Tap the ground once to walk your Warrior directly into the center of an enemy pack, then draw the gesture cleanly across an open section of the screen:
- Charge (V-Shape): Swipe toward ranged archers or necromancers to close the gap instantly, interrupt their animations, and stun them.
- Whirlwind (Circle): Draw a circle once surrounded by trash mobs to spin through the cluster.
Skill Upgrades and Ruby Management
Skill upgrades run on real-time timers once you gain town access. Keep your training queue running continuously, especially when logging off.
- Train Cleave to level 3 first: This boosts your primary attack percentage and establishes faster mob-clearing speeds.
- Train Charge next: Upgrades reduce its cooldown, giving you frequent gap-closing and crowd-control uptime against charging enemies.
- Unlock your second active ability slot with gems: Spend your early rubies to open the second ability slot as soon as it unlocks so you can run both Charge and Whirlwind.
Do not spend gems to speed up early skill research timers. Early skill ranks take only a few minutes to an hour to finish. Rushing these timers wastes the premium currency needed later for permanent inventory expansions and extra companion slots.
Gear and Stat Priorities
Early campaign drops become obsolete every few maps, so swap your equipment frequently based on two main combat stats:
- Weapon Base DPS over Armor: Melee clear speed depends on the raw damage output of your weapon. Equipping weapons with high base attack values reduces the number of swings required to finish a pack. Dual-wielding or using a two-handed weapon clears normal stages quickly; switch to a shield only if an Act 1 boss deals excessive burst damage.
- Life on Hit: Prioritize Life on Hit over raw health. Because Cleave strikes every enemy in front of you, each swing triggers your Life on Hit value against every target hit, refilling your health pool continuously without relying on potions.
- Movement Speed: Keep boots with movement speed to cut down travel time between enemy encounters.
Managing Companion Marcus
You rescue Marcus, an armored tank companion, early in Act 1. Marcus automatically engages front-line enemies and absorbs incoming melee hits, pulling pressure away from your character.
For tough encounters, manage Marcus's stun manually:
- Monitor dangerous elite skeletons or mini-bosses preparing heavy overhead attacks.
- Tap Marcus's portrait icon to trigger his ground-slam stun and lock the target in place.
- Reposition your Warrior behind the stunned target and cast Whirlwind to finish the encounter without taking spike damage.
Early Dungeon Exploration
Explore side corridors rather than running straight to the green exit portal. Smash all barrels, crates, and urns to collect gold and basic item drops. Sell surplus equipment to town vendors and spend that gold to unlock additional bag rows.
If you find locked treasure chests requiring gems to open, leave them alone. Early Act 1 chests provide low-level items that are quickly replaced by standard monster drops within one or two stages. Keep all rubies banked for permanent utility unlocks.

The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This helped me understand early game much better.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Eternium articles next.
