To fix Eternium when it refuses to open, hangs on the loading screen, or crashes immediately on launch on Android, force-stop the app and clear its temporary cache. If startup failures continue, update the game client and Google Play Services, ensure your device has sufficient internal storage, and verify your network connection.

Clear the App Cache

Clearing temporary cached data resolves most startup crashes caused by corrupted patch chunks, broken session tokens, or asset read failures without deleting your saved character profiles.

  1. Open your device Settings.
  2. Select Apps or App Management, then tap Eternium.
  3. Tap Force Stop to end all active background processes.
  4. Select Storage & Cache (or Storage Usage).
  5. Tap Clear Cache.

Do not tap Clear Storage or Clear Data unless your account is registered with an email address or synced to Google Play Games, as clearing data deletes local guest saves. Restart your device after clearing the cache, then launch Eternium.

Check Storage and Permissions

Eternium requires unhindered storage access to download and unpack dynamic assets, textures, and event configurations that are not part of the initial base installer.

Free Up Internal Storage

The game client needs continuous room beyond the base app installation to unpack local databases. If your device has less than 2 GB of free storage, Android may terminate the application during its boot sequence. Check your system storage settings and keep at least 3 GB to 5 GB of free space available to prevent out-of-memory shutdowns.

Configure App Permissions

Operating system updates can revoke permissions from apps that have not been opened recently. Ensure Eternium retains required access:

StepActionPurpose
Open PermissionsNavigate to Settings > Apps > Eternium > Permissions.Access client permission settings.
Enable StorageSet Files and Media (or Storage) to Allow.Permits dynamic asset extraction and save data writes.
Disable Auto-ResetTurn off "Remove permissions if app is unused".Prevents Android from revoking storage access after inactivity.

Update the Client and Google Play Services

An outdated game client will hang on a black screen or fail authentication if the game servers require a newer version. In addition, Eternium relies directly on Google Play Services to handle cloud saves, leaderboards, and login validation.

  1. Open the Google Play Store.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right corner and select Manage apps & device.
  3. Check the Updates available list for both Eternium and Google Play Services.
  4. Apply any pending updates, then relaunch the game.

If Google Play Services desynchronizes, go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Services > Storage and tap Clear Cache to clear stuck authentication handshakes.

Resolve Network and DNS Conflicts

Because Eternium attempts to connect to game servers during launch, connection timeouts or blocked ports will cause the app to freeze before reaching the main menu.

  • Switch Networks: Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If the game loads on mobile data, your local router or Wi-Fi firewall may be blocking game traffic.
  • Cycle Airplane Mode: Turn Airplane Mode on for ten seconds, then turn it off to refresh your cellular connection and reset local IP assignments.
  • Turn Off VPNs and Private DNS: Disable active VPN configurations and third-party ad-blocking DNS services, which can route login requests through blocked server routes.

Reinstall the Game Client

If core game binaries or local installation files remain corrupted, reinstalling the app provides a clean file structure.

Before uninstalling, confirm that your game progress is linked to an email-registered Eternium account or Google Play Games. Uninstalling the app permanently removes progress stored solely on a guest profile.

  1. Long-press the Eternium icon on your home screen and select Uninstall.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Open the Google Play Store, search for Eternium, and install the app.
  4. Launch the game on a stable Wi-Fi connection and let all initial background asset downloads finish completely before switching apps.
  5. Sign in to your linked account to restore your hero data and gear.
