Before entering an Evony battlefield event—such as the Battle of Gaugamela or the Battle of Constantinople—you must recall all active world map marches, switch to combat monarch presets, configure your city defense, and activate temporary stat buffs. Completing these checks before matching prevents lockouts and protects your Keep whether you rely on march ghosting or in-city defense.
1. Recall Active Marches and Configure Presets
The battlefield queue locks your Keep out if any of your march slots are active on your home server.
- Recall all troops: Call back gathering marches, relic expeditions, encampments, monster hunts, and reinforcements at least five to ten minutes before matchmaking begins.
- Empty all march slots: Verify in your march overview that zero marches are in transit.
- Set Rally Spot presets: Pre-configure your march slots to avoid manually selecting troop tiers during live combat:
- Solo Attack: Layered strike force structured around your strongest troop type (such as ranged or mounted) with low-tier buffer troops.
- Reinforcement: Rapid-response marches (such as high-tier cavalry) designed to reinforce contested buildings quickly.
- Building Capture: Fast, minimal-troop marches intended to claim open portals and scoring towers.
- Ghosting: Full-capacity marches designed to shelter high-tier troops via 60-minute alliance rallies if you cannot take defensive hits.
2. Swap Monarch Talents and Gear to War
Entering matchmaking with economic or gathering setups leaves your marches severely underpowered and your Keep vulnerable.
- Monarch Talents: Switch your talent tree from growth or development to War. Prioritize nodes granting Troop Attack, Troop Defense, and Troop HP to match your primary combat branches, along with march speed.
- Monarch Gear: Replace gathering and production items with your highest-tier combat equipment:
- Military Sword and Staff: Increases ground and mounted troop attack values.
- Archery Crown and Armor: Boosts ranged troop defense and damage.
- War Grail and Horn: Enhances siege capabilities and march speed across the map.
3. Verify Wall Generals and Subordinate Cities
Your Keep's defensive capability depends on your wall assignments and subordinate city settings.
Wall Defense Setup
Confirm that your primary Wall General has their best defensive gear set equipped, an assigned dragon or spiritual beast, and compatible defensive skill books. If you run an assistant wall general, ensure their skill books do not duplicate or cancel out the primary general's skills.
Subordinate City Checklist
Sub-cities are frequently set to avoid combat during normal server gameplay to prevent mayor casualties. Re-enable them before entering the battlefield:
| Sub-City Setting | Required State | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Fight Setting | Switched ON / Automatic | Permits the sub-city to join Keep defense and rallies. |
| Mayor Assignment | Active on all unlocked slots | Projects mayor debuffs against incoming attackers. |
| Mayor Equipment | Ares or Achaemenidae sets | Reduces opposing troop attack, defense, and HP. |
| Mayor Troops | Fully trained / topped off | Prevents mayors from dying immediately upon taking damage. |
4. Activate Consumable Combat Buffs
Stat buff consumables carry over when your Keep teleports into the battlefield instance. Activate them from your inventory before clicking entry to save time during the opening rush for central objectives:
- Troop Attack Buff (20% or 50%): Increases damage across all troop classes.
- Troop Defense Buff (20% or 50%): Mitigates incoming damage against rallies and solo attacks.
- Troop HP Buff (20% or 50%): Increases the survival pool of your defensive and offensive lines.
- March Size Increase Buff: Raises your maximum troop capacity for rallies, building defense, and solo strikes.
Applying 24-hour versions prevents buffs from expiring mid-match while defending buildings.
5. Adjust for Ghosting vs. Non-Ghosting Playstyles
Your defensive preparation depends on whether your troop count allows you to ghost all units or requires you to hold your ground.
- Ghosting Accounts: If your total army fits within your march slots, prepare to launch 60-minute boss or building rallies the moment your Keep is targeted. This keeps your high-tier troops off the wall, denying points to attackers.
- Non-Ghosting Accounts: If you have large troop counts or a low-tier defense trap, you cannot shelter your entire army. Empty your Hospital completely before entering to prevent wounded overflow into permanent troop death. Confirm that your in-city defense is active, and coordinate with alliance members to position your Keep as a defensive anchor near contested structures.
