In Evony, the Goddess Statue strategy lets you hunt high-level boss monsters without spending millions of resources or healing speedups on wounded troops. By deliberately filling your Hospital to maximum capacity with inexpensive low-tier units, any subsequent casualties from monster hunting bypass the Hospital entirely. The game converts these excess wounded units into Deserters in the Holy Palace, where you can revive them using passively generated Holy Water instead of food, lumber, stone, ore, and standard healing items.
How the Goddess Statue Mechanic Reroutes Casualties
Standard monster battles route wounded mounted troops directly to your Hospital. Healing high-tier cavalry (Tier 12 through Tier 15) requires massive amounts of food, lumber, and ore, along with substantial healing speedups.
The game mechanics handle casualties using a specific priority order:
- Hospital Capacity Check: When an attack report generates wounded units, the system checks whether your Hospital has open beds.
- Deserter Conversion: If your Hospital is 100% full, additional monster hunting casualties do not die permanently; they convert into Deserters.
- Holy Palace Transfer: Deserters appear in the Holy Palace under the Goddess Statue interface.
- Holy Water Recovery: Reviving Deserters requires only Holy Water, bypassing standard resource costs and healing speedups entirely.
Preparing the Hospital with Low-Tier Troops
To activate this mechanic, you must lock your Hospital at full capacity using low-cost units so your high-tier mounted troops cannot enter medical beds during monster runs. Never use expensive high-tier units to occupy Hospital space. Train Tier 1 Ground or Tier 1 Mounted troops, which require minimal resources and build quickly.
| Step | Action | Execution Details |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Calculate Open Space | Check total Hospital capacity | Add your base Hospital capacity across all medical buildings, Monarch gear, and research bonuses. |
| 2. Train Inexpensive Units | Produce Tier 1 troops | Train enough T1 Ground or T1 Mounted units to match your available Hospital beds. |
| 3. Inflict Safe Casualties | Fill the Hospital to the cap | Attack an unbubbled subordinate city or a low-level tile without assigning generals until the Hospital is full. |
| 4. Confirm Hospital Lock | Verify available beds | Check the Hospital interface to confirm zero beds remain before launching rallies against boss monsters. |
Once your Hospital is locked, any high-tier cavalry injured during monster battles will immediately redirect to the Holy Palace as Deserters.
Managing Holy Water and Palace Limits
Holy Water regenerates passively over time within the Holy Palace and does not consume your city's regular production resources. Upgrading the Holy Palace increases both your maximum Deserter capacity and your hourly Holy Water generation rate. For regular rally runners, keeping your Holy Palace level close to your Keep level maintains steady recovery.
Manage your Holy Palace queue with the following practices:
- Monitor Deserter Capacity: The Holy Palace has a strict ceiling. If your Deserters exceed this capacity, additional casualties become permanent deaths. Keep your Deserter total well below the maximum limit.
- Spend Holy Water Consistently: Holy Water regeneration stops once the pool reaches its cap. Revive batches of cavalry between rallies so the regeneration timer remains active.
- Reserve Horns of Recalling: Horns of Recalling grant instant soul recovery. Save these items for high-volume alliance hunting events rather than daily farming.
Applicable Boss Targets
This strategy is effective when pushing past your zero-wound threshold on difficult bosses, such as B12 (Kamaitachi), B13 (Fafnir), B14 (Phoenix), B15 (Behemoth), or advanced Cerberus stages.
These encounters typically inflict between 500 and 4,000 casualties per attack on a lead march. Absorbing several thousand Tier 14 cavalry wounds through the Hospital quickly drains ore and speedups. With a locked Hospital, those casualties convert into Deserters and are cleared through passive Holy Water generation, allowing you to save inventory resources for building and research upgrades.
Critical Safeguards Against Permanent Losses
Keeping a full Hospital carries extreme risk in player-versus-player (PvP) situations, including the Kill Event (KE) and Server vs. Server (SvS). If an enemy attacks your keep while your Hospital is full, defensive casualties immediately overflow into your Holy Palace. Once Deserter capacity fills, all remaining defending troops die permanently.
Apply these rules whenever your Hospital is full:
- Maintain an Active Peace Shield: Keep a 3-Day or 7-Day Peace Shield active around the clock to prevent enemy scouts or rallies from wiping out defending armies.
- Empty the Hospital Before Battlefields: The Goddess Statue method is strictly for monster hunting. Heal your Tier 1 filler troops before entering the Battle of Gaugamela (BoG) or the Battle of Constantinople (BoC) so your standard medical capacity is completely open.
- Pause Rallies When Near the Cap: Check your Holy Palace interface every three to five rallies. If your Deserter count approaches the building limit, stop hunting until Holy Water clears the backlog.

Nice guide. I am checking the other Evony articles next.
This saved me time in the early game.
