Once you reach one billion Tier 1 (T1) mounted troops in Evony, your next build priority is training a massive T1 ground troop layer to counter enemy archer rallies, adding T1 siege to absorb incoming artillery, and rolling flat defense and HP refines on your wall general's gear.

A pure mounted meat wall blunts most solo attacks, but experienced rally leaders will exploit the combat triangle by launching stacked ranged rallies directly at your cavalry.

Reinforcing the Defensive Combat Triangle

Because mounted troops are naturally weak against ranged attacks, an unlayered cavalry defense allows high-buff archer rallies to trade positively against your keep. Expanding your low-tier troop diversity forces enemy marches to engage unfavorable targets before reaching your cavalry core.

Staging Your T1 Ground Targets

Ground units take reduced damage from arrows and counter ranged formations. Transitioning into a dual-layer wall requires scaling your ground forces in phases:

  1. The 100M to 250M Buffer: Train an initial baseline of 100 million to 250 million T1 ground troops. This reserve prevents standard solo archer hits from wiping your mounted wall immediately.
  2. The 500M Threshold: Expand toward 500 million T1 ground units. At this density, opposing ranged rallies struggle to trade efficiently because your ground health pool absorbs archer volleys before they reach your cavalry.
  3. Training Windows: Schedule bulk low-tier training during Consuming Return events. Always apply troop-training speed bonuses from subordinate cities, titles, and monarch gear before consuming your speedups.

Adding Low-Tier Siege and Ranged Reserves

Do not leave siege and archer slots empty:

  • T1 Siege Engines (50M–100M): Enemy players often send long-range siege attacks to soften defenses before their main army strikes. Having 50 million to 100 million T1 siege engines forces enemy artillery to spend rounds dismantling inexpensive targets.
  • T1 Archers (50M–100M): While archers possess lower base defense than cavalry, maintaining a reserve of 50 million to 100 million provides cheap backline chip damage against enemy mounted units attempting to flank your ground layer.

Rolling Flat Refines on Wall General Equipment

Troop quantity alone fails if your defense general lacks the correct stats. Percentage buffs (such as +30% In-City Defense) scale from the base attributes of the unit. Because Tier 1 troops have single-digit base stats, percentage increases provide virtually no defensive value. You must refine your main wall general's gear with flat numerical attributes.

  • Armor and Leg Armor: Roll exclusively for flat Mounted HP and flat Ground HP. Adding +150 to +200 flat health per line significantly expands the total survival pool of hundreds of millions of units.
  • Boots and Helmets: Prioritize flat Mounted Defense and flat Ground Defense to minimize chip damage across extended defensive exchanges.
  • Weapon and Ring: Focus on flat defensive stats first. Only roll flat Attack values once your front wall consistently survives full rallies without collapsing.

City Debuffs and Hospital Preparation

A one-billion-unit wall easily exceeds standard hospital limits. Surviving high-tier Server War (SvS) combat requires supporting debuffs and resource planning:

  • Equip Mayor Gear: Place full sets of Achaemenidae gear on your subordinate city mayors. Stack debuffs that target enemy Ranged Attack, Ground Defense, and Mounted Attack to reduce the incoming damage before it strikes your front line.
  • Prepare Revival Currencies: Any failed defense at this scale overflows standard medical tents directly into the Holy Palace. Stockpile Gems, healing speedups, Source of Life, and Soul Crystals before opening your city to combat.
