To win with the Hero Attack Druid archetype—often called Bite Druid—in Hearthstone, stack temporary attack buffs on your hero to control the board while generating armor, discount card draw engines like Spread the Word, and pivot into lethal face damage once your attack burst peaks.

Core Game Plan

Hero Attack Druid functions by converting attack buffs into both offensive reach and survivability. Instead of depending on broad minion boards, your hero acts as the primary removal tool and damage finisher:

  • Trading with Armor: Attack buffs that grant armor allow your hero to attack and eliminate opposing minions without permanently depleting your health pool.
  • Discounted Cycling: Cards like Spread the Word reduce in mana cost for each point of attack gained by your hero during the current turn. Stacking attack allows you to draw cards for zero mana and chain resources continuously.
  • Burst Finish: Once your mana pool expands and your hand holds multiple attack modifiers, direct your accumulated attack values away from the board and straight into the opposing hero.

Opening Hand Mulligan Priorities

Prioritize early ramp and low-cost attack tools to establish control before aggressive opponents overrun the board.

Opening Hand Card TypePriorityStrategic Purpose
Mana AccelerationHighAccelerates your mana curve to enable multi-card attack combinations earlier.
Early Attack Buffs / Hero Power ModifiersHighProvides early minion removal while beginning your armor gain.
Attack-Discounted Draw (Spread the Word)MediumKeep only if you already hold low-cost attack buffs to enable a cheap refill on turn 3 or 4.
Late-Game Burst SpellsLowMulligan away; holding high-cost finishers early clogs your hand and sacrifices early tempo.

Against aggressive decks, keep low-cost attack spells to remove early minions and build an armor buffer. Against slower control decks, keep ramp alongside attack-discounted draw cards to dig through your deck before your opponent establishes defensive walls.

Mid-Game Sequencing and Turn Flow

The critical decision in piloting this archetype is timing the shift from minion removal to direct hero damage. During turns 4 through 6, focus on reducing your draw costs while preserving your life total.

Execute turns using the following order:

  1. Calculate Available Burst: Total the attack values provided by cards in hand, available mana, and your Hero Power.
  2. Assess Incoming Damage: If the opponent lacks lethal damage on their next turn, prepare to send your attack directly to their hero rather than clearing non-threatening minions.
  3. Remove Blockers Minimally: Use auxiliary removal or low-cost buffs to clear Taunt minions or immediate lethal threats.
  4. Apply Attack Modifiers: Cast your primary attack-granting spells and make your hero attack.
  5. Cast Discounted Draw: Play Spread the Word after your hero has accumulated attack value for the turn to draw replacement cards for minimal or zero mana.

Large Taunt minions pose the main obstacle for Hero Attack Druid because your hero can only target one enemy per swing. Pounding heavy Taunt minions with your primary burst wastes damage meant for the opponent's hero.

When facing Taunt-heavy control decks, save dedicated removal tools for high-health blockers instead of expending them on early mid-range targets. Wait for an opening where the Taunt minion can be removed independently, clearing a direct path for your hero's attack.

Against heavy burn or combo strategies, treat armor generation as your main priority. Using your Hero Power and armor-granting attack tools repeatedly raises your effective health out of burst range, buying the turns needed to assemble your finishing attack pool.
