To win with Mech Hunter on the Hearthstone ladder, you must establish an uncontested minion presence within the first three turns, exploit Magnetic positioning to convert newly drawn cards into immediate burst damage, and weave your Steady Shot Hero Power into your turns starting at turn 5. The archetype cannot recover easily from behind; maintaining board initiative dictates whether your Magnetic minions function as immediate threats or under-statted standalone units.
Mulligan Strategy and Curve Priorities
Your opening mulligan must prioritize securing a turn 1 play. Without an active Mech on board entering turn 2, follow-up Magnetic buffs lose immediate value.
Going First
With only three cards in hand, keep your requirements strict:
- Always Keep: Any 1-mana Mech. Developing a unit on turn 1 guarantees a target for turn 2 Magnetic plays.
- Conditional Keeps: Keep a 2-mana Mech only when your opening hand already contains a 1-mana Mech. If you do not have a turn 1 play, toss the 2-drop to search for a 1-drop.
- Full Mulligans: Always discard spells, weapons, and cards costing 3 or more mana.
Playing With The Coin
The Coin gives you extra flexibility to smooth out mana usage across turns 1 through 3:
- Two 1-Mana Mechs: Keep both. Use The Coin on turn 1 to summon two minions, creating two separate Magnetic buff targets for turn 2.
- Smooth Curve: Keep a 1-drop, a 2-drop, and an impactful 3-drop to curve out each turn without floating mana.
| Card Cost | Priority Status | Keep Condition | Tactical Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-Mana Mech | Essential | Always keep | Establishes immediate board presence on turn 1 |
| 2-Mana Mech | High | Keep with a 1-drop or on The Coin | Fuels turn 2 tempo or attaches as a Magnetic buff |
| 3-Mana Mech | Medium | Keep only with a full 1- and 2-mana curve | Secures midgame board pressure and trading power |
| 4+ Mana Cards | Low | Always toss | Dead weight in hand that forfeits early tempo |
Magnetic Positioning Rules
The Magnetic keyword depends entirely on minion placement on your board.
- Attach to the Left (Pseudo-Charge): Place your Magnetic Mech directly to the left of a friendly Mech that started your turn on the board. The stats and text merge into that active minion, allowing the added attack to hit face or trade immediately.
- Summon to the Right (Standalone Unit): Place your Magnetic Mech to the right of your minions to play it as an independent body. Use this when facing classes with cheap single-target removal, silence, or transform effects (such as Priest or Warlock) to prevent an opponent from removing all your invested stats in a single action.
- Board Spacing: Position your primary buff targets carefully so future attachments do not disrupt positioning-sensitive cards or auras.
Midgame Execution and Hero Power Timing
Between turns 4 and 6, shift your focus from contesting the board to constructing lethal damage windows.
- Limit Unnecessary Trades: Only trade into opposing minions if leaving them alive threatens your lethal clock or enables a complete board wipe. Every minion trade sacrifices face damage and gives slow decks time to access late-game recovery tools.
- Weave Steady Shot: Mech Hunter uses a low mana curve and risks running low on cards. Starting at turn 5, plan your mana expenditure to activate Steady Shot for two guaranteed face damage each turn.
- Generate Resources: When your hand size thins out, rely on Mech-generating effects to discover low-cost plays rather than holding back cards in fear of area-of-effect spells.
Matchup Strategies
Adjust your approach based on whether you are racing aggressive boards or beating slow control tools.
- Aggressive and Tempo Mirrors: Control the board first. Aggressive decks lack sustained recovery tools, and the player who loses board control loses the match. Use Magnetic buffs to execute favorable trades where your minions survive. Magnetizing high-health buffs onto Taunt Mechs shuts down opposing attacks and protects your offensive threats. Once your opponent runs out of resources, direct all attacks to the enemy hero.
- Control Archetypes: Play on a strict clock before turn 6 board wipes come online. Avoid stacking all your Magnetic buffs onto one giant minion if the opponent runs cheap hard removal or silence. Instead, split your stats across two moderately sized threats to force multiple answers. Chip away health, track mana thresholds for enemy board clears, and finish the remaining life total with weapons, off-board Magnetic burst, and Steady Shot.

The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
