To beat the Killipede boss in Tier 2 of How Many Dudes?, anchor your front line with high-health tanks to absorb collision charges, deploy damage carries that pierce or cleave multiple body segments simultaneously, and space your backline units so a single charge cannot wipe them out.
Killipede Boss Mechanics
The Killipede poses two distinct mechanical threats during Tier 2 runs:
- Segmented Hitboxes: The boss consists of linked body segments that each absorb damage. Single-target attacks that hit only the head or one segment take too long to clear its total health pool.
- High Collision Damage: The Killipede moves rapidly across the board. If it collides directly with fragile, low-health units, it eliminates them instantly and disrupts your formation.
Secondary creeps also spawn during the encounter. If left unchecked, these adds draw your units' targeting AI away from the boss, allowing the Killipede to maneuver freely.
Required Damage Profiles
Pure single-target attacks fall behind against the Killipede's segmented body. Ensure at least two of your primary damage dealers use one of the following profiles:
- Piercing Projectiles: Weapons that pass through targets strike multiple segments as the boss coils and loops across the arena, multiplying your effective damage per shot.
- Area Cleave and Explosives: Wide melee swings and explosive rounds strike overlapping segments at once while clearing stray adds to keep your team focused on the boss.
- High Attack Speed: Fast firing rates maintain constant attrition damage and prevent the boss from moving between attacks without taking damage.
Formation and Unit Placement
Do not pack your army tightly into a single corner. A grouped formation allows the Killipede's sweeping path to trample your entire squad in one pass. Instead, position your units by role to control collision angles and preserve your ranged carries.
| Unit Role | Function Against Killipede | Placement Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy Tank | Absorbs charge collisions and stalls boss movement | Forward row, centered toward the boss approach |
| Cleave Melee | Damages overlapping segments and clears secondary creeps | Directly behind or beside heavy tanks |
| Piercing Ranged | Fires through coiled body segments from safety | Back row, evenly spaced across the board |
| Support | Provides buffs, healing, or attack-speed bonuses | Rear corners away from primary charge lanes |
Spacing your ranged carries along the backline ensures that if the boss breaks through your frontline and tramples one unit, adjacent shooters survive and continue dealing damage from the flanks.
Economy and Upgrade Milestones
Arriving at the Killipede encounter with an un-upgraded board often results in a loss. Manage your gold economy leading up to the encounter with these priorities:
- Preserve Gold for Interest: Avoid rerolling the shop aggressively during early Tier 2 rounds. Hold your gold reserves to collect passive interest.
- Reroll Only for Pairs: Reroll only when you hold matching pairs on your bench that are ready to combine into higher star levels.
- Consolidate Star Levels Before the Boss: Liquidate temporary placeholder units before the boss round begins. Reinvest your accumulated gold to ensure your frontline tanks and piercing carries are upgraded to two-star or three-star status before the Killipede spawns.
