To clear the first five campaign levels in Iron Marines+, lead every engagement with your commander hero, space ranged infantry behind the frontline, and reserve tactical abilities and Ether drops for high-threat bottlenecks. Each opening mission introduces a distinct tactical mechanic that dictates unit movement and resource allocation.

Level 1: Frontline Control and Hero Basics

Level 1 introduces basic unit pathing, hero combat, and escort mechanics. Your goal is to eliminate alien clusters, escort civilian assets, and reach the extraction gate.

The primary failure point is letting fragile rifle squads march ahead into the fog of war, where ranged spitters can wipe them out before they can return fire.

  1. Lead with your hero: Move your commander ahead of your troops. Heroes possess high health pools, offensive skills, and out-of-combat health regeneration.
  2. Anchor rifle squads behind: Position infantry just behind the hero’s engagement line. As the hero absorbs enemy attention, direct your riflemen to focus fire on the weakest swarming bugs first to cut down incoming damage quickly.
  3. Collect supply caches: Tap interactive terrain and tactical supply drops along the road to gain bonus Ether. Use these funds to replenish squad losses before approaching the final extraction gate.

Level 2: Canyon Chokepoints and Ranged Artillery

Level 2 tests positioning across narrow canyon corridors and barricaded paths. Stationary spitters and heavier alien variants inflict area-of-effect splash damage that can eliminate bunched squads instantly.

Navigate bottlenecks using these positioning rules:

  • Scout with the hero: Push your hero slightly around corners to trigger enemy attack animations without drawing adjacent patrols.
  • Target backline spitters first: Direct your hero’s active damage abilities at stationary acid spitters rather than auto-attacking front-row melee units.
  • Maintain squad spacing: Keep at least two squad-lengths between separate infantry units to prevent splash damage from hitting multiple squads at once.
  • Wait out health regeneration: After clearing a corridor, hold your ground until your hero regenerates to full health before opening the next area.
  • Funnel ambushes: When approaching the final clearing, fall back to the canyon mouth. Let burrowing ambushers funnel into a narrow line where your concentrated fire can eliminate them safely.

Level 3: Base Defense and Outpost Containment

Level 3 requires capturing an outpost, restoring its power grid, and defending the perimeter against timed assault waves. Overspending Ether on static emplacements leaves you without mobile field units to intercept multi-lane breaches.

  • Build dedicated entrance turrets: Place machine gun turrets on foundation pads facing fast swarmers, and build laser or missile turrets where armored bruisers advance.
  • Station troops centrally: Keep your mobile units in the center of the outpost rather than against the outer fences. Central positioning lets your strike force reinforce any breached gate within seconds.
  • Clear egg clusters between waves: During pauses between assault waves, march into the surrounding perimeter to destroy alien egg nests. Removing nests prevents ambient wild bugs from distracting your perimeter turrets during timed attacks.

---

Level 4: Mobile Escort and Secondary Objectives

Level 4 introduces dynamic multi-lane pressure. You must escort mobile engineering rigs while neutralizing roadside environmental hazards and alien bio-nodes. Splitting your forces across multiple lanes leaves isolated squads vulnerable to heavy patrols.

Keep your forces consolidated into a single group using this sequence:

  1. Maintain a rolling escort: Keep your main combat force tightly grouped around the moving convoy.
  2. Sweep roadside hazards: Send your hero slightly ahead of the convoy to trigger explosive pods and unburrow ambushing aliens before the fragile vehicles take damage.
  3. Secure checkpoints before detouring: When a timed secondary objective appears on a side path, do not split your army. Clear the immediate path until the convoy stops at a security checkpoint.
  4. Rotate as a full unit: March your entire strike team to eliminate the secondary objective, then return together to resume escort duty.

Level 5: Elite Encounters and Special Weapon Timing

Level 5 concludes the opening arc with reinforced alien waves and an armored Elite Bio-Beast. Basic attacks alone will not pierce heavy carapaces quickly enough to save your frontline; you must rotate abilities and deploy tactical support weapons at the correct phases.

Encounter PhasePrimary ThreatTactical Counter
Initial BreachSwarmer packs and burstersUse hero crowd-control abilities; kite enemies backward into turret range.
Mid-Mission RidgeArmored bruisers and acid launchersTarget backline acid launchers with orbital strikes or bombs; focus rifle fire on bruisers.
Final Hive StandElite Bio-Beast and continuous swarmsTank the boss with your hero, turn its back to your squad, and deploy tactical powers.

Defeating the Elite Bio-Beast

Save high-impact tactical weapons, such as orbital strikes or combat drones, for the final hive clearing.

When the Elite Bio-Beast spawns, send your hero behind it to face the monster away from your ranged units, preventing frontal cleave damage from hitting your squads. When the boss winds up its ground-slam attack, move your hero out of the red indicator, call down your orbital strike directly onto the boss, and concentrate all squad fire to finish the mission.
