To complete the Color Out of Space secret mission on Sagan-1 in Iron Marines+ on Veteran difficulty, hold the access ramps directly outside your central objective rather than retreating into a passive ball. Anchor the frontline with a durable hero such as Taggins, support them with Snipers and area-of-effect infantry, and reserve high-impact tactical drop weapons to wipe out simultaneous multi-lane swarms during the final wave.

Veteran difficulty increases alien movement speed, burst damage, and durability. Because squad capacity is strictly limited, each deployment slot must fill a specific role:

  • Hero (Taggins or Kara): Taggins is the most reliable pick due to his invulnerability shield, allowing him to body-block narrow ramps and absorb concentrated melee strikes. If you run Kara, keep her behind your frontline to provide sustained long-range ballistic area damage.
  • Snipers: Essential for manual targeting. Their range allows them to eliminate acid-spitting backline artillery beasts before toxic pools force your squad to scatter.
  • Rifle Troopers / Marines: Provide steady, direct fire to melt standard running swarms and chip down armored targets.
  • Flamethrower Units / Brawlers: Positioned directly behind your hero to burn through dense clusters of light enemies at entry chokepoints.

Ramp Defense and Target Priority

The map funnels incoming waves through two main access ramps that lead to your central position.

  1. Avoid splitting forces evenly: Dividing your units between both lanes cuts your damage output in half. Keep your squad consolidated near the central platform edge where they can quickly rotate between ramps.
  2. Engage at the ramp bottleneck: Station your hero at the entrance of the currently active lane to force incoming swarms into a tight clump. Keep ranged infantry on elevated or recessed ground just behind the hero.
  3. Target Acid Spitters first: Ground-targeted acid pools will decimate stationary infantry. The moment an artillery beast steps into view, manually order your Snipers or hero abilities onto it.
  4. React to subterranean burrowers: When ground disturbance animations appear near your backline, shift your ranged units a few paces away to avoid knockdown, then turn and eliminate the surfaced alien.
  5. Hold Armored Brutes in place: Keep Taggins or your primary melee unit engaged directly with heavy brutes so the enemy cannot reach your fragile Snipers.

Surviving the Climax Assault

The final wave launches a coordinated assault down both ramps at once.

  • Use tactical drops on the secondary lane: Place a minefield or call an aerial strike onto the secondary approach corridor as soon as the minimap indicates incoming forces. This eliminates that flank automatically without requiring you to split your troops.
  • Focus squad firepower on the primary lane: Direct your hero and all surviving infantry to burn down the remaining armored brutes and swarms at the main ramp.
  • Manage hero recovery: If your hero falls during the final rush, do not scatter. Pull your surviving infantry into a compact defensive ring around the central objective point, activate any remaining emergency shields or consumables, and hold position until the hero respawn timer finishes. Methodically clear any surviving stragglers to finish the mission.
