To consistently beat Ultra Hard levels in Match Factory!, you must protect your bottom tray capacity, clear structural clutter from the top down, and save board-clearing boosters for critical moments. The main cause of failure on difficult stages is overloading the bottom tray with unmatched items while hunting for deep objectives. Maintaining free space and targeting only the items required by the stage checklist will prevent premature losses.
Maintain Tray Buffer Space
Your bottom tray holds up to seven items. If all seven slots fill without forming a three-of-a-kind match, the stage ends immediately.
To manage your tray effectively under high item density:
- Cap incomplete sets: Never let your tray hold more than two unfinished item sets at once.
- Stop and resolve: If four or five slots become occupied by mismatched items, stop picking up new objectives. Search the board strictly for the third matching piece needed to clear an existing tray set.
- Keep a three-slot buffer: Reserve at least three open slots whenever you need to dig through top clutter to reach a partially covered target.
Target Goals and Load-Bearing Blockers
Ultra Hard levels fill the board with high volumes of filler items that do not count toward your stage goals. Tapping neutral objects simply because they sit on top wastes time and risks cluttering your tray.
Focus your moves directly around required items:
- Identify the blocker: If an objective piece is wedged beneath neutral items, check whether removing a specific neutral object will slide the target free.
- Clear neutral items in complete sets: If you must clear non-target items to access a goal, only pick them up if you can immediately collect all three pieces to clear them from your tray.
- Dismantle mounds from the top down: Removing items from the highest point of a pile causes upper layers to slide downward and spread out. Picking blindly at the base can cause heavy objects to collapse and bury flat targets deeper.
- Pause for physics to settle: Allow moving objects to settle for half a second after a shift before tapping again, preventing mis-taps on shifting items.
Booster Selection and Timing
Boosters should be reserved for board states where manual matching cannot resolve a tray jam or an inaccessible objective. Avoid activating utility tools during the opening minute when normal top-down clearing can still open the board.
| Booster Tool | Trigger Condition | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Freeze / Clock | Fewer than 20 seconds remain and target items are already exposed | Halts the countdown timer so you can collect visible targets without time pressure. |
| Vacuum / Cleaner | Tray capacity reaches five or six mixed, unresolvable items | Automatically pulls and resolves a full three-item set to clear space immediately. |
| Spring | High-priority targets are pinned beneath heavy, immobile objects | Throws top-layer blockers into the air to reshuffle the pile and expose deep items. |
| Fan | Target pieces are stuck behind rigid geometry or awkward angles | Pushes items sideways to dislodge caught objects and reveal obscured faces. |
Do not activate a Freeze booster while target items remain buried deep under neutral clutter. Wait until the necessary pieces are visible on the board so the frozen time is spent tapping matches rather than searching through the pile.
Manage the Final Countdown
Timer losses in the final 30 seconds usually stem from panic tapping, which quickly fills open tray slots.
When the clock runs low, narrow your focus to one required item type at a time. If your checklist requires two distinct items, ignore the second item entirely and scan the board for the first. Once that set clears from the tray, you gain both visual clarity and the maximum slot buffer needed to collect the remaining pieces before time expires.
