Traveling to a new galaxy in No Man's Sky breaks all technology installed in your active Exosuit technology slots, active starship, and active multi-tool. To survive the jump with minimal downtime, switch to an expendable starship and secondary multi-tool before making the transition, package valuable Exosuit upgrades into your cargo inventory, and carry a dedicated stockpile of repair resources.
How Galaxy Transitions Affect Your Gear
Warping through the galactic center or resetting the simulation breaks every module installed in the technology inventories of your currently equipped equipment. This includes your core Life Support, Hazard Protection, Scanner, ship engines, and weapon systems.
Items stored in standard cargo slots, starship cargo, and freighter storage vaults do not break. Unused multi-tools and reserve ships in your fleet also remain completely undamaged. The transition only affects what is actively equipped when the jump occurs.
Pre-Jump Preparation Checklist
Before initiating the final warp or completing the reset sequence, swap your loadout to protect your primary gear:
- Switch to a sacrificial starship: Equip a cheap shuttle, basic solar ship, or unclaimed crashed ship. Keep your primary fighter, hauler, or Sentinel Interceptor in reserve so its installed technology stays intact.
- Equip a backup multi-tool: Open the quick menu and switch from your primary weapon to a spare multi-tool. You can own up to six multi-tools, allowing you to dedicate a basic model strictly to absorbing jump damage.
- Package essential Exosuit upgrades: While you cannot unequip your Exosuit, you can manually package non-essential upgrade modules—such as movement modules, shield boosters, and personal refiners—and move them into cargo slots. Packaged modules do not break and can be reinstalled immediately after arrival.
Cargo Stockpile for Instant Repairs
Store these supplies directly in your Exosuit cargo inventory so you can repair critical survival components immediately upon awakening on a hazardous world:
| Item | Quantity | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Repair Kit | 10–20 | Replaces complex components (such as Quantum Computers) in broken slots |
| Wiring Loom | 15–30 | Required for rebuilding mid- and high-tier technology modules |
| Chromatic Metal | 1,000 | Fixes scanner, life support, and ship propulsion systems |
| Pure Ferrite | 1,000 | Repairs structural plating and protective modules |
| Oxygen | 1,500 | Recharges and repairs core Life Support systems |
| Sodium Nitrate | 1,000 | Restores Hazard Protection and environmental shields |
Repair Kits are particularly valuable because they bypass the need to craft advanced trade components on an unfamiliar planet. You can obtain them from Outlaw Stations or derelict freighter salvage.
What to Do Immediately After Landing
When you awaken in the new galaxy, your character will be stranded on an unknown planet with depleted survival gauges. Execute these steps in order:
- Stabilize survival systems: Open your Exosuit inventory and immediately patch Life Support and Hazard Protection using Oxygen and Sodium. If the climate is extreme, use the Terrain Manipulator to dig a cave, or find a natural cavern to let your hazard bar recharge safely.
- Repair your scanner: Fix your Analysis Visor and Scanner using Carbon and Ferrite Dust to locate resources and determine the direction of your stranded starship.
- Summon an undamaged reserve ship: Your sacrificial ship will spawn broken several hundred units away. Instead of repairing its Pulse Engine and Launch Thrusters on foot, walk a short distance from the crash site, open the quick menu, and summon one of your undamaged reserve starships directly to your position.
- Anchor the new galaxy: Fly directly to the local Space Station to register its terminus teleporter. Then, land on a planet, place a Base Computer, and claim a small outpost. Naming the base after the new galaxy ensures you retain permanent two-way teleportation access between this new galaxy and your existing bases in Euclid.

Nice guide. I am checking the other No Man's Sky articles next.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
Good guide for No Man's Sky players. The base building part was useful.
