To recruit your first organic frigate in No Man's Sky, obtain the Dream Aerial blueprint as a random drop from freighter expedition debriefs, craft the device, carry it in your inventory, and activate your ship's Pulse Engine until a Whalesong signal appears. Disengage the pulse drive, answer the incoming transmission, and accept the creature to add your first living frigate to your fleet for free.
How to Get the Dream Aerial Blueprint
The Dream Aerial blueprint cannot be bought on the Space Anomaly or salvaged from planetary manufacturing facilities. It drops as a random reward when debriefing standard fleet missions from your freighter.
- Interact with the Fleet Expedition Terminal on your freighter bridge to deploy frigates on daily industrial, combat, trade, exploration, or balanced expeditions.
- Wait for expeditions to conclude, then interact with your Fleet Command Rooms to debrief the mission commanders.
- If the blueprint does not drop upon debriefing, continue sending out daily expeditions until it is awarded.
Ensure your fleet ratings exceed expedition difficulty ratings by at least one or two stars to prevent frigate damage during these missions.
Dream Aerial Crafting Requirements
Once unlocked, craft the Dream Aerial in any open inventory slot in your exosuit, starship, or freighter.
| Component | Quantity | Ingredients and Sourcing |
|---|---|---|
| Living Glass | 1 | Crafted from 1 Lubricant (Gamma Root + Faecium) and 5 Glass (Frost Crystal), or purchased from trade outposts, pilots, and pirate stations. |
| Solar Mirror | 3 | Crafted from 40 Gold, 30 Antimatter, and 10 Truncated Carbon (or refined carbon variants). |
After assembling the components, select an empty inventory slot, choose the Dream Aerial recipe, and build it.
How to Use the Dream Aerial to Find a Living Frigate
You do not need to install the Dream Aerial in a technology slot. Keep the crafted item in your active starship or exosuit cargo hold.
- Launch your starship into open space away from planetary atmospheres and space stations.
- Engage your Pulse Engine and keep it running continuously in open vacuum.
- Wait for the ship cockpit to signal an Organic Frigate Detected or Whalesong event, which typically appears within 20 to 40 seconds of flight.
- Drop out of pulse drive immediately by releasing the throttle when the prompt displays. Dropping out early without the prompt will cancel the event.
Recruiting Your First Space Whale
Once you disengage your Pulse Engine, a biological frigate will warp into space directly ahead of your ship.
- Open your ship's communicator through the quick menu or by responding to the cockpit alert.
- Read the entity's memory impressions and select dialogue choices that convey cooperation or resonance.
- Review the frigate's procedural stats, role specialization, fuel consumption, and class rating (C through S).
- Select the option to bond with the frigate. The first organic frigate recruited through the Dream Aerial is free of charge and automatically joins your capital ship's fleet roster.
How to Find Additional Organic Frigates
The Dream Aerial works only for your first guaranteed organic frigate recruitment. Crafting another Dream Aerial or keeping the original in your inventory will not summon additional living frigates.
To recruit more organic frigates:
- Acquire Anomaly Detectors: Shoot standard asteroids in any solar system until an Anomaly Detector drops.
- Filter for Whalesong: Activate the Anomaly Detector and engage your Pulse Engine. Ignore common anomaly alerts (such as trade probes or derelict freighters) and remain in pulse drive until the notification specifically reads Whalesong.
- Prepare Units: Subsequent living frigates are not free. Depending on the frigate's class (Class C to Class S), recruitment costs between 5,000,000 and 45,000,000 Units.
- Check Fleet Capacity: Verify that your fleet currently holds fewer than 30 total frigates before spending resources, as 30 is the maximum fleet limit.
