To defeat bosses and trigger the ending sequence in Obsidian Knight: Roguelike RPG, prioritize evading visual attack telegraphs over dealing continuous damage, hold at least one mobility skill in reserve, and deliver your highest-potency attacks only during post-ability recovery animations.
Reading and Evading Boss Telegraphs
Bosses indicate heavy abilities using floor indicators, windup animations, and audio signals. When a red marker appears, break your offensive combo immediately to escape the affected zone.
- Circular impacts: Expanding red circles mark incoming area-of-effect bursts or lingering environmental hazards. Dodge directly outward immediately rather than circling the perimeter of the ring.
- Linear tracks: Straight red paths signal high-speed charges or linear projectiles. Dodge perpendicular to the line to evade the hitbox and position yourself along the boss's flank.
- Conical sweeps: Frontal cones indicate sweeping melee combos or breath attacks. Step or dodge laterally behind the boss to escape the arc.
Taking hits from red zones frequently triggers knockbacks or stuns that leave your character defenseless against follow-up strikes. Relying on armor to soak damage during boss fury phases will quickly end a run.
Managing Arena Spacing by Boss Type
Getting backed into arena walls or corner pockets removes your evasion options. Adjust your positioning based on the boss's attack profile:
| Boss Category | Ideal Combat Range | Movement Pattern | Priority Hazard |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heavy Melee Brawler | Mid-range | Circular kiting along room perimeter | Gap-closing lunges and ground slams |
| Ranged Caster | Close-to-mid range | Diagonal zig-zag advances | Lingering floor fields and homing projectiles |
| Aggressive Skirmisher | Reactive close range | Lateral dodges across the boss's back | Multi-hit rapid blade flurries |
Against heavy melee bosses, kite in wide arcs around the outer area of the room. This forces the enemy to adjust its pathing and creates delays between swings while keeping the center open for emergency dodges. Avoid straight-line retreats, which can be punished by gap-closing lunges.
When fighting ranged casters, avoid staying at maximum range where spread attacks cover more area. Close distance using diagonal zig-zags to bypass linear spells, then strike as the casting animation ends.
Punishing Recovery Windows and Conserving Mobility
Continuous attacking leads to animation locks that prevent you from dodging counterattacks. Treat boss combat as a cycle of evasion followed by short burst windows:
- Wait for the full combo to finish: Bosses pause briefly after executing an attack chain or room-wide skill.
- Execute burst cooldowns: Cast your hardest-hitting weapon skills and spells during this brief downtime.
- Disengage before recovery ends: Step back before the boss queues its next rotation. Squeezing in basic attacks at the end of a window risks trapping you in your own attack animation.
- Reserve mobility cooldowns: Always keep one dash or movement skill available strictly for defensive retreats. If closing in on a boss requires exhausting your only movement ability, skip the window and wait for the next attack cycle.
Managing Minions and Invulnerability Phases
Summoned minions and immune transitions disrupt your positioning if not handled methodically.
- Clear minions immediately: Switch focus to minion waves as soon as they spawn. While their individual damage is low, their projectiles, slows, and physical body blocking restrict your ability to dodge main boss telegraphs. Clear them in groups using wide-area skills while tracking the boss in your peripheral vision.
- Halt attacks during immune phases: When a boss triggers an invulnerability shield, stop attacking completely. Conserve your stamina, monitor safe floor spaces, and avoid falling hazards until the boss becomes targetable again.
Defeating the Final Boss to Reach the Ending
The final campaign boss combines mechanics from earlier encounters, utilizing tracking dash attacks, screen-wide projectile patterns, and reduced telegraph windows.
Keep a mid-range distance to bait tracking charges, then dodge sideways at the end of the windup and strike from behind. In the low-health final phase, the boss enrages, drastically shortening the pause between attacks and blanketing the arena with overlapping red zones. Maintain your evasion discipline and refuse to trade hits for the remaining fraction of the health bar. Once the final blow lands, the boss is defeated and the campaign ending sequence triggers.

I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This saved me time in the early game.
