To clear early dungeons in Obsidian Knight: Roguelike RPG, kite enemies around room perimeters, kill ranged targets immediately, and preserve your health across rooms. Healing items are scarce between encounters, making health conservation your main priority. Delivering brief attack combos, dodging telegraphed strikes, and punishing recovery windows allows you to survive mob waves and chapter bosses consistently.

Room Movement and Positioning

Surviving multi-enemy rooms requires continuous circular movement. Standing still lets melee packs surround your knight while ranged enemies line up projectile fire, leading to heavy chip damage. Deliver your basic attack combo, read incoming enemy wind-ups, and immediately move before hitboxes connect.

Control room layout using four basic movement rules:

  • Outer Ring Kiting: Move along chamber perimeter walls to keep all active monsters in front of you. This prevents back attacks and lines up chasing packs.
  • Corridor Funneling: Lead melee groups through narrow gaps between stone pillars or map obstacles. Funneling groups mobs together so directional attacks strike several enemies at once.
  • Corner Avoidance: Never retreat into corners or dead ends. If enemies threaten to cut off your lane, move diagonally across open space before the pack closes in.
  • Terrain Shielding: Place stone columns or environmental debris between your character and ranged attackers to block projectiles while clearing melee threats.

Target Prioritization in Combat Encounters

Ranged casters and archers restrict your movement lanes and force panic dodges, making them your primary targets when a room starts. Slow melee bruisers can be safely kited, so rush down projectile units first to secure space to maneuver.

Health Conservation and Room Hazards

Because healing between rooms is limited, avoid damage trades even if it slightly slows your clear time. Taking avoidable damage in early chambers compounds across an entire run, leaving you with little margin for error during elite encounters and chapter bosses.

Environmental hazards remain dangerous even after all enemies fall:

  • Watch Floor Traps: Floor spikes, elemental traps, and explosive barrels continue operating after combat finishes. Wait for hazard cycles to finish before walking across floor tiles to collect loot.
  • Break Destructibles: Smash urns and wooden crates around the room edges after combat ends. These containers can drop recovery items, temporary shields, or bonus currency.

Selecting Mid-Run Upgrades

During early level-ups, choose direct physical damage, attack speed, and broad attack reach over conditional or low-health perks. Increasing base damage and attack arcs reduces the time needed to clear mob waves, which lowers the number of incoming attacks you must evade.

When selecting defensive upgrades, take unconditional survival perks:

  • Flat Durability: Maximum health increases and flat damage reduction provide reliable buffers across every encounter.
  • Avoid Low-Health Triggers: Pass on perks that require low health thresholds to activate, as staying near low health puts runs at risk.
  • Upgrade Balance: Choose offensive traits when clear times drag, and select defensive traits if boss damage routinely exhausts your health pool.

Chapter Boss Strategy

Boss encounters require baiting heavy attacks and striking during recovery animations rather than trading damage directly. Chapter bosses signal major attacks with glowing red ground markers, weapon raises, and distinct wind-up animations. Never trade hits during these preparation phases.

  1. Observe the Opener: Keep distance upon entering the arena to see whether the boss begins with a lunge, a ground slam, or a projectile barrage.
  2. Evade Perpendicularly: When red ground markers appear, dodge laterally rather than straight back, as forward-moving charge attacks cover long distances.
  3. Punish Recovery Windows: Step in as soon as the boss finishes its strike animation, landing a controlled combo while the boss remains stationary.
  4. Disengage Before the Reset: Back away before the boss finishes its reset frames to prevent close-range counter-attacks.
  5. Clear Secondary Summons: When a boss summons add waves, switch focus to eliminate those minions immediately so the arena floor stays open for dodging boss mechanics.
