Pull Ancient Shards during 2x boost events if your account needs core Epic champions to progress through Clan Boss and Dungeons, or if the boost coincides with an active Champion Chase Tournament. Doubling the drop rates of Epics to 16% and Legendaries to 1% provides the highest raw champion value per Ancient Shard in RAID: Shadow Legends.
2x Ancient Shard Summon Odds
During normal play, Ancient Shards yield mostly Rare champions. A 2x event doubles the chances for higher rarities while proportionally reducing Rare pulls:
| Champion Rarity | Standard Rate | 2x Event Rate | Primary Account Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rare | 91.5% | 83.0% | Food, Faction Guardians, Fusion requirements |
| Epic | 8.0% | 16.0% | Team utility carries, Clan Boss tuning, Faction Wars |
| Legendary | 0.5% | 1.0% | High-impact specialized roles and stat leads |
At a 16% pull rate, roughly one out of every six shards yields an Epic champion. Because progression carries like Venomage or Criodan the Blue unlock higher Dungeon stages and Clan Boss milestones, early-to-mid-game accounts gain far more immediate utility from 2x events than from targeted 10x or progressive chance events.
How the Ancient Shard Mercy System Works
Ancient Shards share a mercy counter that prevents extended streaks without a top-tier pull:
- Mercy Threshold: Activates after 200 consecutive Ancient Shard pulls without a Legendary champion.
- Scaling Rate: Beginning on shard 201, your base Legendary summon chance increases by 5% per pull.
- Reset Trigger: The counter resets to zero immediately upon summoning any Legendary champion.
A 2x event does not increase the 5% per-shard mercy growth, but pulling during the event maximizes your chance to hit a Legendary before needing shard 201. Every non-Legendary pull made during a 2x rotation still counts toward the 200-shard threshold.
Deciding Between Pulling Now and Saving for Fusions
Spending Ancient Shards depletes the reserve required to complete traditional and hybrid Champion Fusion events. Completing the summon milestones in a typical fusion generally requires 40 to 50 Ancient Shards, or equivalent point values from Void and Sacred Shards.
When to Pull
- Your team cannot reliably 3-key Nightmare or Ultra-Nightmare Clan Boss.
- Your roster has fewer than 25 fully built Level 60 champions.
- You are missing functional roles required to clear Stage 20 Dungeons.
- An active Champion Chase Tournament offers valuable milestone rewards alongside the 2x boost.
When to Save
- You are actively saving resources for an upcoming announced fusion.
- You lack the silver, potions, or energy required to gear and level new champions immediately.
- Your Clan Boss chest rewards do not supply enough shards to rebuild your stockpile before the next event.
Sorting Rares and Duplicates
Opening large batches of Ancient Shards fills your champion storage quickly. Process incoming summons using this sequence:
- Check Faction Guardians: Assign duplicate Rares and Epics to Faction Guardian slots to earn passive stat bonuses across each faction.
- Preserve Fusion Champions: Lock any Rare champions required for permanent fusions, such as Rhazin Scarhide, or ongoing limited-time fusions.
- Convert Redundant Rares: Use excess Rares as 3-star rank-up material (food) in the Tavern or level them in Campaign to build 4-star rank-up food.
- Evaluate Duplicate Epics: Keep duplicate Epics for skill upgrades or Faction Guardian slots before converting them into Life Tokens.
Tournament Synergy: Champion Chase vs. Summon Rush
Do not pull Ancient Shards outside of scheduled events. Coordinate your 2x pulls with active tournament calendars for extra account resources:
- Champion Chase Tournaments: These award points based on the rarity of the champion summoned. The doubled Epic (16%) and Legendary (1%) odds make 2x events the most efficient way to earn high point milestones with fewer shards.
- Summon Rush Events: These award points strictly based on the type of shard opened, giving a static point value per Ancient Shard regardless of what champion appears. Save Sacred or Void Shards for Summon Rush events whenever possible, keeping your Ancient Shards aligned with Champion Chase.
