To build Varkos Headsplitter in RAID: Shadow Legends, stack Defense, Critical Rate, and Critical Damage while ignoring Attack entirely. Because his skill damage scales exclusively from Defense, building heavy armor simultaneously increases his offensive burst and natural battlefield durability.
Recommended Stat Benchmarks
Prioritize capping Critical Rate at 100%, then push Defense and Critical Damage as high as possible. Speed is necessary to ensure he takes turns in proper order behind your support champions. Accuracy is situational and only required if you rely on his debuffs.
| Stat | Target Benchmark | Primary Gear Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Defense | 4,200–5,500+ | DEF% Chest, Gloves/Boots substats, DEF% Ring and Banner |
| Critical Rate | 100% | Critical Rate gloves or high substat rolls across all gear |
| Critical Damage | 220%–280%+ | Critical Damage Amulet, gear substats, set bonuses |
| Speed | 180–220+ | Boots primary stat, substats tuned behind turn-meter buffers |
| Accuracy | 220–250 (Optional) | substats and Banner, only if landing debuffs consistently |
Best Artifact Sets
Because Varkos functions as a pure damage dealer without relying on Attack, gear sets that bypass enemy armor or compound Defense yield the highest damage returns.
- Lethal or Savage: Best-in-slot options for raw damage. Bypassing 25% of the target's Defense multiplies the effectiveness of his high-impact burst hits against high-defense dungeon bosses and armored Arena targets.
- Defiance: A strong alternative forged from Hydra materials. It provides a 20% Defense increase while reducing incoming Area-of-Effect damage by 15%, boosting both his damage output and survivability against heavy team-wide attacks.
- Instinct or Cruel Combinations: Viable secondary setups if premium Savage or Lethal sets are unavailable, providing speed advantages or partial defense penetration alongside standard Defense offsets.
Masteries and Blessings
Allocate masteries through the Offense tree, pairing it with either the Defense or Support tree depending on the target game mode.
- PvE Boss Clearing: Path through the Offense tree to Warmaster to generate consistent bonus damage against high-health dungeon and boss targets.
- Burst Nuking and Arena: Select Helmsmasher to gain a 50% chance to ignore an extra 25% of target Defense, or choose Flawless Execution for consistent Critical Damage. Path through tier passives like Shield Breaker, Single Out, and Bring It Down to raise damage against shielded and high-HP targets.
- Blessings: Use Crushing Rend at a 6-star Awakening for end-game PvE boss defense penetration. For 1-star to 5-star Awakenings, or in Arena play, equip Lightning Cage to help safeguard his active buffs or Soul Reap to finish off targets that survive his opening hit.
Team Composition and Buff Requirements
Varkos lacks self-buffing abilities, meaning his damage ceiling relies heavily on team setup. For peak damage, ensure your team applies both essential offensive enablers before Varkos takes his turn:
- Increase Defense (60%): Essential for his damage calculation. Pair him with supports like Krisk the Ageless, Mithrala Lifebane, or Stag Knight so he always attacks with this buff active.
- Decrease Defense (60%) and Weaken (25%): Applied to the enemy team to open a massive damage window for Varkos to eliminate waves or chunk boss health bars in a single rotation.
Speed-tune Varkos to act immediately after your debuffer applies Decrease Defense and your support applies Increase Defense. While he does not feature the passive crowd control or turn-meter control of specialized Defense champions like Harima or Staltus Dragonbane, proper support turns him into an exceptionally durable primary damage dealer across Arena, Dungeons, and Faction Wars.
