Do not commit scarce early resources to a newly acquired free Legendary champion in RAID: Shadow Legends until your campaign farmer is running 12-3 Brutal, your Clan Boss team is established, and you have enough Legendary Skill Tomes to lower their critical skill cooldowns. While promotional codes and login rewards provide immediate access to high-tier champions like Mavara Lionheart or Sun Wukong, these units arrive unbooked, unascended, and without masteries. Rushing to fully upgrade them drains the energy, silver, and potions needed to build a stable roster.
The Skill Tome Bottleneck
Skill tomes represent the most rigid progression cap for Legendary champions. High-rarity units typically require 10 to 15 Legendary Skill Tomes to reach peak efficiency. Books reduce skill cooldowns from five turns to three or four turns while raising debuff application chances from baseline rates up to 100%.
Because Legendary Skill Tomes come almost exclusively from top-tier chests in Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare Clan Boss, Doom Tower clears, and tournament rewards, acquiring them takes months for developing accounts. In contrast, Epic champions rely on Epic Skill Tomes obtained regularly through events and the Clan Shop. An unbooked Legendary cycling five-turn abilities will often contribute less utility than a fully booked Epic champion, such as Uugo or Criodan, whose primary cleanses, debuffs, or crowd control cycle every three turns.
| Resource Requirement | Legendary Champion | High-Tier Epic Champion |
|---|---|---|
| Skill Books | 10–15 Legendary Tomes | 10–14 Epic Tomes |
| Book Acquisition | Months via UNM Clan Boss | Weeks via Events and Clan Shop |
| Potion Demands | Heavy Greater & Superior costs | Moderate Greater & Superior costs |
| Minotaur Masteries | ~2,150 Energy (or 800 Gems) | ~2,150 Energy (or 800 Gems) |
| Artifact Upgrades (+16) | 15M–25M Silver | 10M–15M Silver |
Energy and Ascension Drain
Ascending a Legendary champion to six stars requires dozens of Greater and Superior Potions matching their affinity, along with standard Arcane Potions. Grinding these materials before you can farm Stage 20 of the affinity keeps is mathematically inefficient.
Lower keep stages drop Superior Potions at low rates, forcing you to spend hundreds of energy gathering Lesser and Greater potions, then spending millions of silver combining them in the Potion Mixer. This drains energy directly away from campaign food leveling and early gear farming in Dragon's Lair. Furthermore, leaving a Legendary at three-star or four-star ascension keeps the Ring, Amulet, and Banner accessory slots locked, cutting the champion off from the Speed and Accuracy stats required for mid-game content.
Mastery and Silver Demands
Unlocking all masteries requires gathering 2,040 scrolls from Minotaur's Labyrinth per champion:
- 100 Basic Scrolls
- 600 Advanced Scrolls
- 950 Divine Scrolls
Completing this farm on Stage 15 consumes roughly 2,150 energy (approximately 140 to 160 runs) or an immediate buyout of 800 gems.
Once masteries are finished, gearing the champion introduces a major silver sink. Equipping six artifact pieces and three accessories leveled to +16 costs between 15 million and 25 million silver, with individual six-star pieces averaging 1.5 million to 3 million silver depending on upgrade success rolls. Investing this volume of silver into a niche Legendary can halt gear development across the rest of your roster.
Recommended Progression Order
To prevent account stagnation, evaluate your roster needs before allocating tomes and silver to a free Legendary.
- Finish a Campaign Farmer First: Ensure your first six-star champion can reliably solo Stage 12-3 on Brutal difficulty in under 30 seconds. If your free Legendary is a support or single-target specialist, leveling them first will slow down the leveling of all future champions.
- Prioritize Clan Boss Champions: Clan Boss provides the daily chest rewards that yield future Legendary Tomes and Sacred Shards. Invest your masteries, energy, and gear into champions who apply essential debuffs like Decrease Attack, Leech, and Poison before funding Arena or wave-clear champions.
- Audit Book Reliance: Check the champion's skill upgrades. If their passive abilities or primary utility skills work without cooldown reductions, you can safely rank them to 60. If their core kit requires multiple cooldown reductions to function reliably, leave them at rank 50 until your Legendary Tome stockpile covers the requirement.
