The Laidback Pioneer is located in the Forest Brook area of the Hidden Forest in Sky: Children of the Light. You can find this unlit spirit resting inside a large hollow tree trunk along the left riverbank. Successfully escorting its memory through the rain rewards you with the Casual Stance at no candle cost.
How to Reach the Spirit's Location
To find the spirit from the realm's entrance, proceed through the standard progression gates:
- Drop through the cloud tunnel from the Forest Social Space into the introductory clearing.
- Pass through the three consecutive stone gates to enter the Forest Brook, where rain falls steadily over a running stream.
- Follow the stream downward and look along the left embankment for a cluster of tall trees with large exposed roots.
- Check the base of the hollow tree lined with glowing shelf mushrooms. The unlit stone figure of the Laidback Pioneer sits sheltered beneath this trunk.
| Stage | Landmark | Path and Features |
|---|---|---|
| Starting Point | Left Riverbank Trunk | Hollow base sheltered beneath glowing tree mushrooms |
| Mid-Route Cover | Forest Shelf Fungi | Overhanging trunk fungus and tree hollows along the slope |
| Final Shrine | Hillside Cavern Niche | Sheltered rock alcove situated near the exit archway |
Escort Route and Rain Management
Reliving the Laidback Pioneer requires completing a slow light-carry escort rather than flying through checkpoints. Once you ignite the spirit, a circular light aura appears around your character. You must physically guide this memory sphere up the incline to the destination altar without letting the rainfall extinguish it.
- Stay grounded: Walk steadily inside the memory circle. Jumping or flying can throw you outside the aura, stopping its forward movement and exposing the light to immediate rain damage.
- Watch the aura color: Rain continuously depletes the memory sphere. If the circle shrinks and turns red, the memory is about to fail. If it fully depletes, the quest resets to the starting hollow tree.
- Stop at dry checkpoints: Move directly from one covered overhang to the next. Pause under tree trunks, rock ledges, and glowing shelf mushrooms until the circle expands and restores its vibrant blue color.
- Recharge on fungi: Standing on or near the glowing mushrooms attached to tree trunks recharges your cape energy while keeping both you and the memory safe from the downpour.
Multiplayer Carry Strategies
Completing the carry solo requires moving methodically between safe zones. If you are playing with friends or encountering other players along the brook, specific co-op actions make the sequence easier:
- Use an Umbrella or Prop: A partner carrying an umbrella, campfire, or brazier can walk directly over the carry player to block rainfall during exposed crossings.
- Replenish Energy with Deep Calls: A companion standing near the active escort runner can perform deep calls to recharge the carrier's cape wedges without forcing a detour.
- Trade Escort Roles: Any player inside the aura can advance the light. If your light runs low, another player can step forward to guide the ring while you recover under cover.
Rewards: Casual Stance and Traveling Spirit Cosmetics
Igniting the final statue inside the hillside cavern frees the spirit and permanently unlocks the Casual Stance in your expression menu. This baseline stance is free to equip and changes your avatar's idle pose to a relaxed posture with hands rested in pockets.
The Laidback Pioneer's cosmetic items—including the hair bun with hairpin, the bird mask, and the functional blue umbrella—are limited to Traveling Spirit visits. When the spirit returns on a rotation to Home or Aviary Village, these cosmetics can be unlocked using standard Candles and Ascended Candles. The umbrella can be opened during exploration to shield you from environmental rain in realms like the Hidden Forest.

This helped me understand strategy much better.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
