To add a friend using a friend code in Sky: Children of the Light, open the in-game settings menu from the top-right corner of your screen, select the Invite menu, and either generate a new code to send or enter a code you received. Redeeming an invite code immediately adds both players to each other's friendship constellations, enables text chat, and requires no in-game candles.
How to Create and Share a Friend Code
You can generate a friend code from safe hub areas like Home and Aviary Village, as well as inside realms, without needing to be near the other player's avatar.
- Tap the upper-right corner of the screen to open the utility menu.
- Select the gear icon to open the main settings.
- Select the Invite button (indicated by a person silhouette with a plus icon or envelope).
- Choose the option to create a new friend code.
- Enter a nickname for the person you want to invite.
- Confirm the creation prompt to generate your unique alphanumeric text code, URL, or QR code.
- Copy the code or link to your clipboard and send it directly to your friend through an external messaging platform.
Each invite code is strictly single-use. Once another player claims a code, it expires. If you want to connect with multiple people, generate a distinct code for each individual.
How to Redeem a Received Friend Code
If another player sends you an invite code or QR code, follow these steps to accept it:
- Tap the upper-right corner of your screen and select the gear icon to enter settings.
- Select the Invite menu.
- Choose Redeem Friend Code or the scan option.
- Paste the text code into the input field, or scan the QR code using your mobile device's camera.
- Confirm the prompt displaying the friend's nickname to complete the connection.
Once confirmed, the other player immediately appears in your Friend Constellation at Home or Aviary Village.
Friend Codes vs. In-Person Friending
Using invite codes offers substantial resource and connection advantages over lighting another player's candle in an active realm instance.
| Feature | In-Person Interaction | Friend Invite Code |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Friending Cost | 1 White Candle | 0 Candles (Free) |
| Base Chat Access | Locked (Costs additional candles) | Unlocked immediately |
| Location Requirement | Must share the same realm shard | Cross-platform and asynchronous |
Because Sky dynamically splits players into separate server instances, meeting a specific friend naturally in a realm is unreliable. Friend codes connect accounts directly regardless of server sharding, eliminating matchmaking barriers and saving daily candles.
Troubleshooting Redemption Errors
If a code fails to register, check for the following common issues:
- Code Already Claimed: Because codes are single-use, sharing a code in a public group allows anyone to redeem it first. If someone else claims it, the code becomes invalid. Always exchange codes through private messages.
- Formatting Errors: Text codes are sensitive to spacing. When copying a code from an external chat app, verify that no extra spaces were added before or after the string.
- Server Sync Delays: During high server traffic or live events, a newly added friend might not show up in your constellation immediately. Return through a realm portal or restart the game client to refresh your constellation list.
