Special utility capes in Sky: Children of the Light function as permanent keys or teleportation items. Unlike standard cosmetics, these items bypass specific environmental barriers or trigger direct realm warps from your expression menu. When you wear one, you can also bring other players into these restricted zones by holding hands.
Special Cape Functions and Locations
Each functional cape corresponds to a specific hidden realm or event space, using either a physical barrier check or a menu warp:
| Cape Name | Primary Function | Destination / Realm | Group Access Method |
|---|---|---|---|
| Founder’s Cape | Dissolves entrance barrier | Secret Office (Vault of Knowledge) | Hand-holding through barrier |
| Asteroid Jacket | Emote menu warp node | Asteroid B612 | Hand-holding during emote warp |
| Wings of AURORA | Emote menu warp node | Coliseum Mega Concert instance | Hand-holding during emote warp |
| Nintendo Switch Capes | Opens 2D warp pipe seal | Retro 2D Arena (Golden Wasteland) | Hand-holding through pipe seal |
Founder’s Cape (TGC Cape)
The Founder’s Cape features a dark exterior with a bright blue interior styled after the Thatgamecompany logo. Its primary function is unlocking the Secret Area (the Office) located behind the starting area in the Vault of Knowledge.
- Passing the Barrier: Equip the cape and walk directly through the translucent blue wall on the ledge behind the realm spawn.
- Purchasing the Cape: The Founder’s Cape cannot be bought from standard realm shops. It is sold exclusively inside the Office by a developer spirit. To buy it without owning it previously, you must either be escorted through the barrier by an owner or enter during public holiday open-house events when the barrier temporarily drops.
Asteroid Jacket and Wings of AURORA
These collaboration items bypass realm gates entirely by adding a direct warp icon to your emote wheel:
- The Asteroid Jacket: Activating its emote node channels a brief teleport directly to the Asteroid B612 area, which houses swings and story set-pieces from the Season of The Little Prince.
- Wings of AURORA: Activating its flight ability sends you to the 4,000-player concert instance in the Coliseum outside scheduled events.
Both capes transport anyone holding hands with you into the loaded instance automatically.
Nintendo Switch Capes (Red and Blue)
Available via the Nintendo Pack, these red and blue capes act as physical keys in the Golden Wasteland graveyard. Approaching the pipe structure while wearing either cape unlocks the entrance seal. Passing through loads a 2D side-scrolling obstacle course featuring retro lighting, block platforms, and 8-bit sound effects.
Group Escort Rules and Barrier Mechanics
To bring players who do not own these capes into restricted areas, follow these group rules:
- Maintain Direct Hand-Holding: Barrier checks only evaluate the player leading the group. Every passenger must be connected in a continuous hand-holding chain behind the cape bearer before stepping through a threshold.
- Dismount Piggyback Stacks: While standard hand-holding reliably extends access permissions, piggyback formations can desynchronize at narrow physical thresholds. Switch to normal hand-holding if a barrier repels your group.
- Use Temporary Trial Spells: During anniversaries and special events, temporary trial spells for utility capes are often distributed. These spells provide identical barrier-clearing and warping functionality for 30 minutes to a few hours, allowing you to access restricted shops or explore areas without purchasing the permanent bundles.
