You take the role of a Starfleet Captain commanding a first starship while a time anomaly threatens the galaxy. The game’s collection-driven structure gives you access to hundreds of characters, including Spock, Picard, Captain Kirk, Worf, Janeway, and Burnham, with each character offering unique combat skills and abilities. A larger PC display is useful when you need to read combat information, track the action in a 3D starship battle, and compare the abilities of several potential crew members before committing to a team. Keyboard-and-mouse input can also make repeated management tasks more precise, from selecting characters and ships to moving through mission choices, equipment upgrades, and fleet menus.

Star Trek Timelines also extends beyond solo progression through its fleet and alliance systems. You can join a fleet, cooperate with friends during weekend events, and help collaboratively upgrade a starbase for shared bonuses. Fleets can unlock unique spaceships, improve their collective capabilities, and work together to occupy regions of space in PvP galaxy battles. This social layer gives your upgrades a strategic purpose beyond personal power: developing a starbase and coordinating a fleet can support attack, defense, and evasion across the group while helping you compete for control of the galaxy. On PC, the larger screen makes it easier to keep the wider strategic picture in view when reviewing your starships, checking fleet-related objectives, and planning which resources or upgrades should come next.
