To win Grand Arena Championship (GAC) matches in Star Wars™: Galaxy of Heroes, divide your roster between defensive squads that force costly multiple attempts and high-control offensive teams that finish battles with full health and protection. Matches are decided by net banner efficiency rather than raw clear speed alone. Placing your entire roster on defense risks running out of firepower for a full clear, while over-committing to offense leaves your territories easy to breach.

Core Defensive Anchors

Defensive squads must punish mechanical mistakes, disrupt turn meter, or require specific counters that drain your opponent's premier teams.

General Grievous Droids

General Grievous punishes careless attackers with area-of-effect strikes that scale directly with his maximum health pool. B2 Super Battle Droid acts as the team's primary disruptor by continuously stripping enemy buffs whenever his droid allies absorb damage. If an opponent attacks without ability block or buff immunity control, B2 resets their turn order while Grievous wipes their squad.

Iden Versio Troopers

Iden Versio leads non-droid Imperial Troopers to provide immediate revives, high protection recovery, and continuous out-of-turn assists. Opponents cannot brute-force this squad with undergeared secondary units. Defeating an Iden defense cleanly requires dedicated crowd control, heavy area-of-effect ability blocks, or reliable daze effects to stop their assist train.

High-Banner Offensive Clears

Offensive teams must control the encounter from the opening turn, locking down the enemy to finish battles with maximum banners.

Commander Luke Skywalker (Lead)
├── Han Solo (Shoots first, locks down primary threat with stun)
├── Chewbacca (Applies Guard, assists on basic attacks)
├── Threepio & Chewie (Stat sharing, mass blind, assist damage)
└── C-3PO (Confuse debuff train, cooldown reduction, exposes)

Commander Luke Skywalker (CLS)

The classic CLS lineup relies on a rigid turn-meter control engine:

  1. Han Solo takes the opening turn automatically, using his initial stun to disable the opponent's primary threat or opener.
  2. Chewbacca’s Guard mechanic protects the lowest-health allies (typically Han and Luke) from critical hits, stuns, and ability blocks.
  3. C-3PO and Threepio & Chewie cycle Confuse and Blind debuffs, which feed continuous turn meter back to the team.
  4. The enemy team remains locked down, allowing you to secure a 60-plus banner victory without taking return damage.

Veers Imperial Troopers

A Veers-led squad featuring Moff Gideon and Dark Trooper functions as an offensive steamroller. Winning depends on your opening speed:

  • Mod Moff Gideon or your fastest support trooper to outspeed the opponent's openers.
  • Once Gideon or Veers triggers the first turn-meter gain, the squad chains bonus turns continuously upon every buff and enemy defeat.
  • Dark Trooper delivers heavy physical burst damage to eliminate threats before the opposing team acts.

Solos and Undersized Counters

Using fewer than five characters yields bonus banners. Equipping specific Grand Arena Omicrons enables single units or small trios to defeat full five-character squads.

  • Wampa (Omicron): Functions as a standalone offensive solo against squads such as Iden Versio, Mon Mothma, and General Grievous. Her Omicron grants stacking offense, counter-attacks, and massive tenacity. Heavy tenacity mod sets are mandatory to prevent stuns or daze from halting her counter attacks.
  • Savage Opress (Omicron): Provides near-impenetrable survivability and continuous debuff cleansing under his Omicron. Use Savage to solo debuff-heavy defensive teams or clear secondary backline zones for undersized win banners.
  • Darth Traya Trio: Deploying Darth Traya alongside Darth Nihilus and Darth Sion neutralizes teams that rely on out-of-turn attacks. Traya’s passive ability damages enemies whenever they attack out of turn, while Nihilus builds toward an instant-kill Annihilate to remove taunting tanks.

Modding and Speed Priorities

Review your mod targets before locking your GAC defense and offense:

  • Opening Speed: Primary openers—such as Han Solo, Moff Gideon, and 501st Rex—require top-tier speed secondaries to seize the first turn and dictate match momentum.
  • Defensive Tank Survivability: Avoid stacking speed on pure defensive tanks like MagnaGuard and Shoretrooper. Prioritize health, protection, and critical avoidance arrow primaries so they survive opening salvos and maintain their taunts.
  • Tenacity Checks: Solo units like Wampa require full tenacity mod sets to resist crowd control that would otherwise break their counter-attack loops.
