To win fleet battles in Star Wars™: Galaxy of Heroes, you must upgrade your pilots to scale your ships' core stats, sequence your Capital Ship commands effectively, and build synergies around high-impact debuffs like Target Lock.

How Pilot Progression Shapes Ship Performance

A starship's combat performance depends directly on the character assigned to its crew slot. While increasing a ship's blueprint rarity raises its level ceiling and ability ranks, core attributes—most critically Speed, Health, Protection, and Physical Damage—scale from the pilot's character progression.

Because Speed determines turn order, an under-geared pilot causes their ship to act after the opposing fleet, often leading to early losses. Every equipped mod contributes to a ship's stats based solely on the mod's rarity (dots) and level, rather than its specific secondary stat rolls. Upgrading pilots to higher gear tiers and equipping full sets of Level 15, 5-dot mods directly increases your ship's Speed and survivability.

When allocating gear, prioritize pilots who also serve active roles in ground squads—such as Biggs Darklighter, Wedge Antilles, and Grand Moff Tarkin—to maximize account efficiency.

Capital Ship Doctrines and Command Timing

Capital Ships cannot be targeted or damaged directly. They govern battle tempo through passive fleet abilities, active support commands, and decisive ultimate attacks. Each primary starter commander supports a specific combat doctrine:

  • Grand Moff Tarkin (Executrix): Focuses on offensive critical damage and debuff exploitation. The Executrix gains Turn Meter when enemies are inflicted with Target Lock, building toward an orbital strike ultimate ability that clears the field.
  • Admiral Ackbar (Home One): Focuses on fleet sustain, continuous out-of-turn assist attacks, and shield restoration to keep allied attackers alive.
  • Mace Windu (Endurance): Focuses on defensive attrition, cycling Taunt, Critical Hit Immunity, and Damage Immunity across frontline tanks to absorb heavy fire.

Timing your commands around enemy ability rotations is critical. Avoid triggering high-cooldown offensive buffs or ultimates immediately before an enemy cleanses or while your frontline is afflicted with Buff Immunity. Hold major commands until your fleet can immediately execute follow-up attacks to capitalize on the advantage.

Maximizing Target Lock Synergy

Target Lock is fleet combat's core status effect. Multiple ship abilities gain bonus effects, guaranteed critical strikes, or Turn Meter manipulation exclusively when attacking locked targets.

Biggs Darklighter's X-wing illustrates this synergy:

  1. Whenever an enemy receives Target Lock, Biggs immediately recovers a substantial portion of his Protection and gains Taunt.
  2. Pairing Biggs with reliable, high-speed Target Lock applicators—such as the Imperial TIE Fighter or Tie Advanced x1—allows him to repeatedly refresh his Protection pool.
  3. This loop absorbs incoming damage without forcing you to spend turns on dedicated repair abilities.

Hold special abilities that grant bonus damage or Turn Meter removal against locked targets until the debuff is actively applied. Firing unenhanced abilities at standard targets sacrifices overall damage output.

Frontline Lineup and Reinforcement Tradeoffs

Fleet battles deploy three frontline ships and draw from up to four reinforcement hangar slots.

Your starting three ships require sufficient opening Speed, early debuff capability, or durable base stats to survive the opening volley. Fragile damage dealers should not start on the frontline unless shielded by an immediate Taunt or Stealth effect.

Reserve ships trigger unique reinforcement skills upon entering the field:

  • Dispel and Buff Immunity: Clears enemy Taunt or defensive buffs to open paths to vulnerable damage dealers.
  • Emergency Recovery: Cleanses debuffs and restores Protection to stabilize a damaged frontline tank.
  • Immediate Burst Attacks: Calls assists or attacks immediately to eliminate a low-health target before the enemy can respond.

Calling a reinforcement consumes your Capital Ship's entire active turn. If your frontline maintains high Protection and control of the field, using an offensive command or ultimate ability to secure a kill is generally preferable to summoning an unneeded reserve ship.

Combat Targeting Priority

To prevent the opposing fleet from snowballing or reaching its Capital Ship ultimate, follow this targeting sequence:

  1. Eliminate Fragile Attackers: Focus down low-durability offensive ships, like Imperial TIE Fighters, before they deal critical damage.
  2. Neutralize Enemy Taunts: When enemy tanks such as Biggs Darklighter or Sun Fac taunt, dispel the effect or apply Buff Immunity to resume focus fire on priority targets.
  3. Track Enemy Turn Meter: Monitor the enemy Capital Ship's Turn Meter bar. Destroy critically wounded targets before that Capital Ship acts to prevent the opposing fleet from reinforcing while at full capacity.
